We stayed in the Hotel on Cottage Walk rather than on the bay; the rooms are inexpicably small and the WIFI is terrible, but it is a nice little place for one night and the staff were really friendly and helpful.

GREAT place!!! Highly recommend. My husband and I go there every year and stay in one of the king rooms at The Palms Bungalows. They held our luggage and let us use beach chairs, towels, umbrella, and wagon before check-in and after check-out. There's a continental breakfast buffet on the weekends. The rooms are clean, well maintained and the kings rooms are pretty with white bedding and chandeliers. The people are very nice and professional. I made a mistake with our reservation on Labor Day weekend and Antonija was absolutely awesome. The manager Laura was great also and they fixed it for us. We'll definitely be going back again next year.

In February 2017 I contacted Laura and got pricing for an event to take place in the summer of 2018. As details progressed, I contacted her again in May 2017 and her demeanor had changed from very pleaseant to one in which she clearly couldn't be bothered and she told me that Ashley, the event planner, would call me within the week. When Ashley didn't call, I sent an email to Laura who told me that Ashley would indeed call me. Week after week went by with no call even after several emails requesting a call back. It wasn't until I told Laura via email that I would write this negative review and file complaints with the hotel owners, did Ashley call me.

Ashley was also pleasant and I went ahead and made the reservation and gave my credit card information. I received a confirmation email that explained that although the guests would be responsible for their respective room and food/drink plan fees, that I would be responsible for the $750 venue fee to collect from the guests. Since I needed clarification of this fee and if there was an alternative to me being on the hook for it, I had asked Ashley via email to call me but the reply I got was from Laura asking what she could do for me. I asked her to have Ashley call me (since Ashley was the person who I had made the arrangements with, I didn't see the need in speaking with Laura who clearly pawned me off on Ashley to begin with).

After several attempts via email failed to get Ashley to call me back, I called the hotel and left a message for Ashley to call me, she never did. One response email from Laura said that Ashley was out of the office and would call me when she returned on Monday, that call never came either.

This morning, August 28, 2017 I sent another email to Ashley and Laura called me. It was clear to me that they did not want my business nor were they willing to work with me on the details of this venue fee. I cancelled my reservation and I told them that I would not recommended them to anyone. I don't know how this hotel has survived as a business if this is how they operate. In all my almost 50 years on this planet, I've never seen anything like it. They wasted a lot of my time.

    Use another hotel.

Exceptional customer service, well kept rooms and prime location. The Plams is unmatched against any hotel in Ocean Beach. Highly recommend to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway! :)

Great location, just off the main Street and walking distance to the beach. Friendly staff and a cool courtyard to sit outside and lounge around. The rooms were clean and nice but the beds a little too soft and squeak whenever you move!

.Overal my experience in the hotel was fairly enjoyable. The hotel offered complimentary breakfast and allow customers to rent items needed for the beach. The staff was friendly, knowledgeable, and prompt. The pricing of the rooms is fairly expensive, but that is to be expected of a hotel with access to the beach and everything else that Ocean Beach has to offer. The room was fairly small, lacked bedside furniture, and the floor was very sandy.

We arrived very early and confirmed our check in would be at 4pm. Came back later and did not get out room until 5pm. No explanation.
The first night I thought kids were having a party down the hall due to loud music playing. It was just club music coming from front desk until 1:30am. I had to leave a note asking to turn it down (the gentleman at the front desk was no where in sight).
Second day we asked same gentleman at front desk to have our tv fixed for later. We came back in the evening and he forgotten. We had to ask him two more times until it was fixed around 9pm.
That same night a group of the younger staff that lives across street posted up around hotel communal space (our windows) until 2:30am making so much noise that we couldn't sleep. Then an alarm went off across the street at roughly 2:40am. Finally closer to 4:30am the police made sure they kept quiet.
It was an unfortunate issue with the alarm, but the staff should have been more respectful that there are still guests paying to stay in the hotel.
At check out Jeanine was sincere and apologetic. She offered to have us back some other time. Donald was also a great help to us during our stay, but the other staff members were rude and dismissive. I just felt like we were intruding on their summer vacation during our stay at the hotel.

If you are planning a trip to Fire Island there is no need to look any further than The Palms Hotel! The friendly and courteous staff and owners of the Palms have truly thought of everything one could need/want while on a beach vacation. The reason I keep coming back to the Palms is knowing that I all need to carry on the ferry is a small bag with a bathing suit and clothes and I am set! No lugging chairs, towels, wagons, etc.! They even have their own coffee shop in the lobby! The whole hotel smells delightful and the beds and linens are all a crisp white! The decor is totally out of a chic hotel from NYC or Miami! Go to The Palms and you truly will think you took a 3 hour plane ride out of Long Island to a hip resort! And while your there grab a "Rocket Fuel" and a meal at C.J.'s you can thank me later ;)

Bathrooms smell. Front desk obnoxious. For $500/night you would expect a bathroom that didn't stink. Also no bath tub to wash your children. Because for $500/night the hotel doesn't have a pool for my 6 year old and 4 year old to swim in. I asked the front desk if there was a place on the island that had a pool we could pay for the day. Her snooty response was "no we don't, but we have a great, big ocean you can swim in". Well lady, why don't you put your 4 year old in the ocean with the 5-7 foot waves. P.S. - Try to be courteous to your customers that are spending $500/night for a closet size room, not on the beach, with a foul-smelling bathroom you can barely fit in.
