Great location in Brooklyn, walking distance to the Barclay's center and Atlantic terminal. The hotel room was normal size for NY. Bed was comfy. The staff was nice and accommodating. The only thing that could be improved is the cleanliness, specifically the shower.
Rooms were small. Linen and towels are flimsy. No laundry facility. There was rust on air vents and bathroom fan. The bathroom faucet was was not properly mounted to the sink. Staff was nice. I have had far superior experiences at NYC hotels with similar rooms. A positive is that when and inebriated woman tried to access my room, the manager was able to address the situation within minutes. However, I am not sure how she got past the front desk. Parking is available at a cost.
I just went with a friend to pickup a friend. I only seen the outside.. nice decreet location. The hotel it self is beautiful. But I do not know what the inside looks like.
I was a little nervous after I read some reviews but this was a great place. 1. They DO have hair dryers 2. Room was a good size 3. Very clean 4. FREE breakfast 5. Great toiletries 6. Close to places to eat and enjoy night life!!! Very happy and would stay again
I recently stayed at the Red Lion Inn & Suites Brooklyn and the experience was atrocious. The only reason I am even giving it a one star is because of the service provided by Scarlett at the front desk. She did everything she could to make our experience better. Unfortunately for us, she was only working the morning we arrived. Let's begin with the review.
The location of the hotel is in one of the most graffiti filled neighborhoods in the area, equipped with all of the amenities, graffiti covered buildings, broke down cars, and giant empty lots that you would not be able to pay people to comfortably walk through. The hotel looks like it may be the only building without graffiti on it. Which would be a bonus, if the environment didn't scream of urban 90's movies where someone is bound to be shot before the first half.
The hotel's interior is INCREDIBLY small. Even the lobby leaves something to be desired, with people's bags not having somewhere to be stored, stacked high next to the single elevator. The hotel itself was clean enough. The rooms were a strange mix between attempting to be minimalist with whites, white oak, and contrasting with bright reds. They were mostly clean, with small things like the A/C possibly being older than I am (31) and having parts fall off of it. The Direct TV they offered couldn't hold connection for longer than 15 minutes without lagging or completely disconnecting. The room size itself must have been inspired by the word minimalist because I have never stayed in a room so small. The bathroom in the rooms however was beautiful. The shower pressure was fine, the water was perfect, and the amenities offered were all very nice quality.
Unfortunately, that may be the last high point of this hotel. Never have I been to a hotel that did not have extra blankets or pillows available. Somehow, they were out of both. There are only 15 parking spaces15!!! When I called the weeks prior to the stay, which I never got directly to the hotel since apparently the phone lines fully go down sometimes (quote from the staff), I spoke with the primary office number and was told that they had ample parking and I shouldn't worry about calling ahead. Fun Fact : I was told if I had called ahead, they could have held me one of their precious spots. I was also informed by another staff member that sometimes if they overbook, the staff is forced to park on the street. They don't even have enough parking spaces for their staff. And lastly, the breakfast. There was one person attending to the breakfast, so mostly everything was out. She was doing her best to restock, but it was an impossible task for her. They were out of many things before the breakfast was over. The Juice dispenser tasted like they had been intentionally watering down the juices, making them all unbearable to drink. The folded eggs with cheese were surprisingly good, while the Waffle batter dispenser was half broken and falling apart. There also was no measuring cup, nor extra cups, so everyone shared the same cup while pouring, leading to possible cross contamination and health code violations. I will also say the pastries they served were excellent. I had the mini Boston Cream Donut. It surprised me with flavor and freshness.
Overall, the experience was horrid. We had to find other places to park, leading to a mile walk to the hotel (I refuse to park on the street with cars covered in graffiti), we were able to get PART of a breakfast, we weren't able to obtain any extras for the room, nor could we check in early, and finally, the walk to the hotel at night looked like the previews to a horror movie. If not for Scarlett, the eggs, and the mini donut, this place would receive 0 stars. I would recommend not only not staying here, but staying as far away from here as possible.
It's SMALL, rooms are tiny, dinning area is tiny, parking is tiny.
BUT, service is great, amazing staff, clean rooms, washrooms.
Breakfast was good and plenty.
Location is great, convenient and close to the subway.
location is in the middle of 3-4 major subway lines, 10 minutes walk to all of them.
wifi is good in the lobby and outside but in my room did not get a clear signal.
clean rooms
bad about noise isolation, you hear everything that is happening in your floor but that’s manageable
Room is very small! Even though pictures make room looks to be a nice size. The room also had a smoke smell Sassoon saver walked through the door. And even worse the room just wasn't completely clean. If someone is paying for a space for a night or two we shouldn't be finding random hairs in our tissue box or dust throughout the room. And while a complimentary breakfast is provided, it's first come first served. The juice machine was out of order but there was nothing else offered to drink. The staff suggested a soda from the vending machine. Overall this was a poor experience and I pray to not have to return here again.
I stayed two nights here with my girlfriend and we really enjoyed the clean, quiet rooms; the staff was very courteous and friendly, especially during the morning shifts. This place is near several bars and shops, and if you're visiting New York for the first time, do yourself a favor and get a bacon-egg-cheese at a bodega nearby -- you won't regret it. If you're staying at the Red Lion and you are a big walker, everything is within your reach - The Barclay's Center, Target, The Subway, etc. The dawns and evenings here are quiet, no car horns or ambulances or loud music next door. If you want to see Brooklyn, Brooklyn, then this spot is a good one. It was for us.
Visited here from the UK, room were small but very clean, housekeeping did a great job every day, staff were exceptional and great location also.
Parking is not free, despite what Google says. It costs $35 per night. An employee said this is due to "limited parking," but the lot was empty - not sure if this is a constant policy, and if it is, why advertising says they offer free parking. Google also said a room was available for $79, when in actuality, the cheapest room cost us about $136. The wifi is also absolutely awful.
The hotel itself is fine - but we were deceived into booking a room here when there were better options available.
If you want to make your stay in Brooklyn as unpleasant as possible then stay here. As the old saying goes "cheap isn't always better" This place is a motel not a hotel. The staff think they work at the ritz, I kid you not. From the housekeepers to the manager they speak down to you as if they are doing you a favor for letting you stay at hotel. My wife's earrings were taken from the bathroom by the housekeeper. Once confronted, I simply said "I don't care who took it just bring it back" Five minutes later they were returned. Do yourself a favor, pay the few extra dollars & stay elsewhere. There's at least 5 hotels within a 10 block radius. Choose wisely.
The rooms were very, very small. Our beds were not made and when I brought it to the attention of the front desk, they were very nice and said they would take care of it. The next day the beds were still not made. When I asked again, they said that I had stuff on the bed which is why they didn't make it. The stuff was a towel and a sweater. If they had told me that was the reason why the bed was not made I would have made sure nothing was on the bed.
The breakfast was disappointing. The choices were scant and after the second day we had tried everything.
Parking charge was not previously disclosed-- it was $38.50 per night and that would have been nice to know.
On a good note, the staff was pleasant.
The room was nice, if a little small, and the location is great, but industrial and noisy at night (lots of diesel engines and trucks parking). Easy walking distance to a lot of bars and restaurants.
Overall we enjoyed our stay, but could have slept better.
