Great cabin set up for our family trip!
Was here for a running race and the main lodge is a great social space with an outside hot tub and nice bathrooms and bedrooms that sleep 40 plus. I stayed in one of the cabins and they were cozy and also had their own hot tub on the covered porch. They have a small kitchenette and a gas woodstove for heat and ambience. Bedding and towels were included. I look forward to staying in the cabins each year for this particular race.
The cabin was spacious with more than enough beds for everyone. Amenities were great. Location was great. You can look up and see the Milky Way!
Cabin #1 was great, and had everything we wanted! The owner was very nice as well!
Enjoyed the last of the WV autumn colors there this past weekend. It wasn't my first well-satisfied stay at Opossum, and it definitely won't be my last. Love this destination.
This place is absolutely wonderful! My husband and I rented Cabin #4 for our first wedding anniversary this year. I called Thursday to book for Friday (short notice), and there was only 1 cabin left. Keith actually held the cabin for a few hours before securing the rental with me because I had to check with my husband, and I was thrilled he didn't rent it to someone else. It's a beautiful, rustic, 1 room cabin. The hot tub on the screened in private porch overlooking the woods behind the place was so romantic. And the icing on the cake was when we arrived Friday night, Keith left a handwritten note and homemade cookies for us :) I hope we make it an annual trip! Thanks Opossum Creek Retreat for a memorable experience!
We stayed at "The Farmhouse" cabin. Management was very responsive to all our requests and the cabin was setup well for us by the time we got there. They even baked us some cookies :) Definitely not the luxurious of the cabins out there, but not bad for what it is. Photos of this cabin on their website made us think we were getting a much nicer cabin though :( Enjoyed the hot tub as well.
My husband and I came for a much needed and anticipated long weekend getaway to celebrate my 40th birthday and it couldn't be more perfect. We are staying in the "Over the Hill" cabin, which the owner dreamed up the day after his own 40th :) I can already tell you that I'd recommend this to anyone. Couples especially, but families also. Our kiddos would LOVE it here and there would be plenty of room for all to co-exist happily for a family vacay.
The cabin is perfectly sized for 2 or even 4, but would sleep 6 guests if needed. It's a quaint and tastefully decorated modified post and beam design, is very clean, nicely furnished, and has very nice amenities (like nice sheets and towels--it's the little things that matter most at places like this!). The hot-tub on the back deck is wonderful, completely private and at this cabin, which is built "over a hill" on a rock, you can see the moon, stars, and treetops while enjoying the bubbles. It's perfect for this week near my birthday when we always look for the Leonid meteor showers.
To our delight, there's free wifi (which we never expected) and our AT&T phones have decent 4G service (less guilt leaving our kiddos when we can keep in touch :). The kitchen is nicely equipped and the mattresses are definitely comfortable. We've been enjoying what we are calling "one room livin" by bringing one of the bed mattresses out to put on top of the sleep-away sofa so we have our bedroom, living room, and kitchen all in the same space. The fireplace keeps it cozy and warm and there's lots of natural light (since there's 3 french doors all in a row looking out into the forest and also providing access from every room straight to the deck and hot-tub).
We can't wait to read over the guest book entries and add our own fun stories and memories. We have big plans to go exploring and enjoy the crisp mountain air. We are going to visit Babcock State Park, explore Fayetteville, and definitely check out the bridge. Be sure you visit opossum creek retreat's website and check out the wonderful videos that the owners made personally about each cabin. After months (and I mean months) of searching for the perfect place, we knew immediately that we'd found the right one once I found their site. It's definitely confirmed now that we're here. Thanks in advance Geoff and Keith for your hospitality (especially the homemade cookies waiting for us when we arrived #overthetop! We appreciate all the personal touches and hard work you all put in to make our visit so perfect. We will be back another time :)
