Came for a lunch special, $32 for a salad, steak and a piece of cake. The mixed green salad was good, personally I would have liked to have something sweet versus bacon. The steak was the cheapest on the menu but VERY delicious, full of flavor, very tender, and perfectly cooked. The steak sauce was good but really not needed. The cake at the end was also good but tasted a little dry. The lunch special is the reason I gave it 5 stars, although the meal wasn't perfect it's a fantastic deal!
Over from England and chose to celebrate my birthday at the Old Homestead.
6 for dinner and we were not disappointed.
Staff were so very welcoming and the service was fantastic.
We all loved our steaks.
We would highly recommend this restaurant
I prefer the one in Atlantic city. Needs to be spruced up a bit. Very good STEAK. The service was lacking as compared to AC.
This is a lovely old-style New York Steakhouse. The steaks we had were perfectly prepared, and the interior was very plush and like an old men's club. The only issues we had were minor, and were overcome by the great customer service that the waiters provide. While this is not some place I would go frequently, for special events, it's perfect.
It is a classic NY steakhouse, the french onion soup was excellent, we got the rib eye for two, but next time would definitely get the single rib eyes as they come with fried onion strings (free sides), and it comes out priced similarly. I would go back. The manager seemed nice and made an appearance at most tables, and our waiter was so attentive. It was actually impressive.
Pretty good steakhouse. I ordered the Gotham Rib Steak on the bone. It was a little sinewy but broiled perfectly medium rare. My go-to meat palace is still Keen's.
I have moved in the city for my whole life, and I only just started eating at the Old Homestead a few months ago. All that wasted time! I always get the lunch time special ribeye. A delicious huge tasty steak. Surprisingly though, the staff does not mention the lunch specials (at least, that is my experience). You had to have read the sign outside, and I must say the sign is pretty big. Go to the Old Homestead, you will like it.
Was alright, nothing special or taken aback by. The prices were reasonable here, unlike most of the steakhouses in NYC. I had the 19oz Prime Filet Mignon, $56, and the truffle mac and cheese, can't remember how much, and both were pretty good. Neither was out-of-this-world, but was satisfying. I would definitely say that Del Frisco's is better and I'm sure other steakhouses like Keen and Luger's are better too. But not bad overall. This is also, I think, the oldest steakhouse in NYC
We had a most enjoyable dinner last Wednesday at The old Homestead Steak House I can see why its been operating successfully for so many years ! The steaks melt in your mouth, awesome service in a comfortable setting. I encourage to give this place a try if you had not been there. I have been in the Food and Beverage business a long time and appreciate restaurants such as The Old Homestead !
I'm sorry to see some people went for hamburgers here. Go for the beautiful tender steaks! Been going here for over 20 years (from when they were much smaller). Rarely anything but 5 stars. Also try their cheese bread appetizer -- and of course their martinis.
As someone who had never been to a fancy steakhouse, I was blown away by the food served here. Both the steak and the sides were spectacular. The atmosphere and service was also very good.
Used to love this place. Steaks are great, however same can't be said about spoiled and stuck up service personnel, especially the wine dude. I sent a bottle back, he took it personally, I am not a wine expert, but I know the taste of bitter vinegar. After I asked to speak to the manager, he called the police on me. True story. Never got to speak to the manager, all while this guy was laughing in my face.
Amazing steak, as good as it's been since my first visit in the 80's. Excellent service, great wine selection. But, expensive and loud.
Quiet, calm, with an old New York charm and feel. The steak and burger were right up there with the best we've had. The service is just ok, but the food is outstanding. A great place for a relaxed upscale lunch or dinner. Whiskey selection is good, not great, but you can find a good Whiskey to go with your steak. Prices are high but fair. You can't go wrong here.
Very good steak and decor. Starting coming here with my family 25 years ago. Definitely a great childhood memory. Definitely splurge and order the biggest lobster they have!
