Love the Chinese lanterns. The number of displays seemed smaller this year, but enjoyed the vendors inside. Also the inside entertainment was great, but needed more seating. Still a wonderful experience.
We went to the Chinese lantern festival. It was beautiful! It is a little worn up close and could oil some of the turning ones but for being outside facing the winter weather they are still gorgeous!! The colors, the lights, the music while you walk is fantastic!
Had a great time craft shopping. Needs more standard food booths and restroom facilities were mainly porta potty. Will be going again.
Went to the Chinese Lanterns Festival and it was glorious. It is amazing what can be done with tinker toy like frames, colored silk and electric lights. Worth the money to take the kiddos to.
Chinese Lantern display: Beautiful from a distance but a little shabby and worn up close. No worries, the pics were great. Also, watch what you pay. Some in our party were overcharged because the cashier said senior and military discounts were only good on Thursday. NOT true. The difference was refunded only after discussing it with the manager.
I hated the fall home show and pet alley. A giant home sales, everyone trying to get you to buy NOW. I don't like. If you push me to buy, I will never buy from you. But I did like the pet vendor's. They were the best. They were giving away bulbs, but you had to go throw an aggressive sales pitch, to get them. I also liked the Amish furniture, I took a book and they asked if I'd like a price list, no pushing. I will NEVER go again.
The fair was great once we got in. An accident on 71 north turned a 90 min drive into 6 hours. Then the exit we were told to take to enter the fairgrounds was blocked. If we weren't already frustrated enough, we went to pay parking and were told he had no change. What kind of bull was that! Hundreds of cars trying to get in and we're supposed to pay 20 dollars instead of 5. We were so angry, we had to scrape for a smaller bill and paid for the car behind us just to get in or hold up all the traffic behind us. Maybe that's what we should have done so someone would've brought money to that booth. Whoever was in charge of the parking should be fired! We probably will not go back for a long time.
So many food choices! I don't go for the rides, so I can't say anything about those. The Ohio Division of Natural Resources section is both fun and educational. The events in the Taft Coliseum are great. Last year, they had Jousting, this year, a rodeo. If you get the chance, make sure to take time to listen to the incredibly talented All-Ohio State Fair Band. It's has 200 of the most talented High School musicians in the state. The All-Ohio State Youth Choir is also something you might want to listen to, which is also made up of some of the most talented High School singers in the state. There is just so many things to do at the fair, I can't list them all.
Had a great time! The food was interesting, to say the leastfried buckeyes, fried snickers, fried mashed potatoes, red velvet funnel cakes.what's not to love? The exibits were interests and the animals were fantastic. To top our day off, after missing the ride to our car, an incredibly nice State Trooper stopped and offered to give us a lift . My granddaughter, as well as my husband and I, were thrilled and very grateful. Wish I'd gotten his name in order to thank him once again. We had a great time!
Fun place for the fair and parking wasn't too bad for us just a long walk but that was expected. The bathroom stalls didn't have latches that worked and no toilet paper. The expo center was a cool venue but the video production that follows the band and displayed on the big screen was poorly mixed not professional by any means. I'd come back again
Rock on the Range was great. The fact that after 15 years, they still haven't figured out a good way to get people out after a show is pathetic. One night out was an hour and another it took us almost 2 hours to get out
A decent place to visit. However, I docked them a few stars for their atrocious system for handling the flow of traffic. Literally sat in line for an hour while waiting to exit.
Be careful when you pay to park herewe recently went to the circus & paid the guy at the parking window for our car & our family's car- who were driving right behind us & he must have pocketed the extra $5, because he went ahead & charged them to park as well. We told the employees at the door, but they said that they aren't affiliated with the parking company. The circus itself was fun, high prices as expected, but overall it was decent.
The Ohio Expo Center is awesome, always handles events well, plenty of parking, did and beverage options. I have never had an issue with using the restrooms here, seeing as it's a large facility there are always clean restrooms around, I personally hate port potty so it's awesome that they have so many throughout their grounds. I have been going here for around 30 years and they never have let me down.
The Ohio State fair is extremely fun, they let my wife's service dog come with us with no problems at all. Also they boat expo and the hunting/fishing expo are all exciting and fun. A lot of walking to do but so worth it. Good parking.
