The Manistee River Trail has great scenery, so normally we do North Country Trail the first day and the MRT the second day. It's awesome during the fall with all the changing leaves. Note water sources are scarce on the NCT side but plentiful on the MRT. Plan accordingly.

We had an awesome time backpacking the loop. We started from Sagle Creek road, which has free parking. The North Country trail portion of the loop is a tough hike, with lots of elevation changes. You are up in the hills so there aren't any streams to draw water from, so you need to pack enough to drink while on this section. The whole loop is very beautiful, and there are a lot of really neat places to stop and camp along the way. I recommend this trail to day hikers and backpackers alike.

Recently did this trail with a few of our youth. We left a car at the north end of the trail and drove to the south end for the hike.

We did the Manistee River Trail and came to the suspension bridge after almost exactly four hours. We stopped for a few water breaks and had lunch overlooking the river at one point.

There are some very pretty spots along this trail; a small waterfall (8 feet?), great views of the Manistee river, and some very nice forest land. The trail does go up and down hill throughout; we were planning on perhaps circling the entire loop in one day if we made good time but gave up on that notion considering the western trail is considered much more difficult

Beautiful trail with plenty of excellent campsites. The views are amazing along every stretch, and the trail is largely well-maintained. Great place for backpackers or hikers of all experience levels.

Did the whole loop in a day with my friend and his cousin. Still don't know if it's 18, 20, or 23 miles as we got some contradictions from different sources but it's beautiful out there.
