Not safe to sleep between the black girl & the black guy knocking on trucks begging for money
NO SECURITY OR POLICE ON SITE
Pull in for quick rest on long drive, note that just a few steps down a hill is a lake with picnic tables and geese. Nice of NC to make the effort.
The information center is clean and the staff is helpful but the bathroom isn't that great. There was staff lady that did watch me but I think it was more out of boredom? There is a very interesting whirligig in front of the welcome center and I was taking pictures of it. As soon as I walked inside and approached this lady, she handed me info on the whirligig. I grabbed a few brochures and left and noticed that the lady was watching me. It doesn't bother me but I thought it was a little weird.
The most beautiful of all the NC Welcome Centers in my opinion; I am a Carolina Girl born and raised in NC. The restrooms, information center, and the grounds are well maintained. The staff is absolutely awesome and very welcoming. I feel right at home at this cozy center.
Nice, clean, and very helpful
(this is the northern most center on I-95) Extremely clean visitor's stop with useful information/brochures organized by area of the state. Restful lobby-like area with furniture in front of a fireplace and a thoughtful salute to American veterans via an informative display. Attractive, well kept grounds outside.
Why 1 star?
The staff woman watched me with unmasked distain the entire time I was there. She critically eyed every move I made, as if I were a shoplifter (in a place full of free brochures) or a wanted criminal. I felt so uncomfortable, I left before obtaining info on places to spend my money. Instead, I continued driving through the state and toward Florida where I'm treated with more dignity and fairness.
I'm a cancer patient recovering from massive surgery and total baldness; so I look "different." When my wrecked hair started growing back, I colored it blue to celebrate. There's nothing else about my appearance to raise the hackles of judgmental, bigoted people. That woman should not be staffing a place that sees a diversity of travelers. If she treats a blue-haired cancer survivor this way, just imagine how hateful she'd be towards anyone who doesn't fit her narrow ideal. This is a great way to clamp a tourist's wallet shut. Make them feel despised and unwelcome.
John was awesome. Very nice gentleman.
Loved all of the cool NC info at this pit stop
