Nice, quiet hiking trails. Backpack into some campsites. Beautiful any time of year.
Fantastic state park! Great hiking trails! We started on the beach and watched the stars come out. It was one of the most beautiful sights I've ever seen.
Lovely, beautiful, and quiet state park. Nice hiking in nature! Best thing about it is that it is usually deserted! Very few tourists make there! Very nice beach.. great swimming if the lake levels and water temperature (usually very cold) are right. Nice wading along exposed rock sections. If you are a camper, this the quietest place on the peninsula be sure to camp there, but be QUIET and enjoy the stars and the whip-poor-wills' song Wonderful way to get to nature and leave the tourists and hussle-bussle behind!
I have been to all off the Door County state parks several times but never managed Newport until this year. I finally had the time n opportunity to spend a day hiking on trails and loved it! Not as much beach/sand exposure as i expected thou. Trails we both easy and a little terrain. Loved the nature, different trees, birds, one trail had tons of gardens snakes going across path n on bushes. Welcome center is great, beautiful flowers n butterflies outside. Even great fun n educational inside. The 2nd visit we did a hike in overnight camp and it was great. Sites are secluded and we had one right on the water. Really enjoyed it!
This park is an absolute jewel for hikers. There are several parking areas and many trails all with the unique feel and topography. Despite a heavy Taurus season we only ran across a couple of other hikers in a half-day hike. I can't wait to go back.
Great hiking trails and great campsites! I love being far away from other campers, even if I have to walk a mile. My girlfriend complains that there are no showers I don't mind though.
This is a gorgeous park! I camped here for two nights but was disappointed that the only running water came from a pump a mile away from the campsite. No sinks with running water (except for the front office) and no showers. Otherwise it was a great experience!
Impressive trails, amazing view of bay and good place for swimming. Perfect clear water. Beach is not up to mark, but internal hidden view points are amazing. Definitely recommend to everyone.
The lady at the front desk was very nice and polite and made my experience camping there so much better. As for the park itself it has a lot of beautiful nature and the view of the lake is breathtaking! In the camping sites there's even a dry box to put your food in to avoid any critters getting into it. They also have benches and a pit with a grill to make a fire in. Also there's a nice dog called gunner that lives in the park and follows you around. Lots of spiders though. Overall a great park.
Absolutely gorgeous. Group camp site was awesome.
Great trails and tons of beach access. The rocks, flowers, and ferns are well worth the hike.
Beautiful area on Lake Michigan! Public beaches and good history. The map of the trails could be better, so careful to pay attention where you are hiking! The map provided can be misleading.
Bit of a walk but we spent some time on the beach and the cold water. Park guides took significant time to show us their butterflies inside, which the kids really enjoyed.
Fantastic park. It's a nature park so you will not find playgrounds for the kids. But great trails along the beach.
