Enjoyed the stop while traveling. Was a nice place to get out for a walk.
Unbelievable place! 47,000 acres! At tims I felt like I was in another country. It was cold and cloudy for late JuneUpper 50's, but we saw many red headed woodpeckers,2 loons, a handful of turkeys and a whooping crane. Also many other birds and beautiful scenery. I will most definitely return when the weather is warmer and less windy.
I am very greatful to have this refuge so close to me!
Great stop for a peaceful stroll along paved walks by the visitors center or dirt trails elsewhere. Visitors Center is full of wonderful interactive displays. Kids will enjoy and learn at this center. Go to the observation tower, called observation deck on one sign but tower on another, for good views. We saw a doe with 2 fawns, sandhill cranes, herons, and more birds.
Absolutely worth the trip. The visitors center is full of newly updated activities and exhibits. There are activity bags for kids, the opportunity to earn patches, books and guides (for children and adults) to take on the trails and the wildlife abounds. Mostly staffed by great volunteers with a passion for the work they do.
So much wildlife to observe! It's great to be out among the wild. Good for a long walk, observation, and education in the visitors' center. Very nice center -- theatre, kids' corner, meeting room, etc. Very enjoyable!
Very peaceful. Nice scenery
