We were there for the Polar Express. Everyone was so friendly and made it so magical. My two year old absolutely loved it! We will definitely be back to visit the museum and hopefully for the Polar Express again as well!

Even though we were all adults, the Polar Express brought the kid out of us. We cheered, we drank, we sang, and we talked to Santa. The festive decorations, the train, and the children along with their parents dressed in their jammies set the tone for a wonderful way to start the holidays. Many thanks for creating memories that will last a lifetime!

Awesome experience. We went for the Polar Express and the actors looked just like the movie characters. Very convenient to receive a gift certificate for staying at a hotel in Rowan County. Also, they were excellent in accommodating for wheelchairs.

I have visited this museum many many times, and every time I love it more. Lots of exhibits to see and the all volunteer staff work incredibly hard to keep everything clean and running. Its so cool to see something with so much history still infused with passion and life. I highly recommend it.

Great place if you like to see steam-era equipment. You can walk all around the engines and see (and touch) every detail. They have more recent equipment as well. Also has a nice (but small) auto exhibit and a few other features.

A great place to bring the family for hours! I interesting items from our past. Some I can remember using and some well before my time! We spent the Day out with Thomas and Percy in this visit, however they host many other events here as well. The staff and vendors are so nice, helpful and friendly. We thoroughly enjoyed our day here. Even got to ride a train pulled by Thomas! Only bout couple of hours drive from Raleigh. There is something for everyone and all ages to enjoy!

We've been to visit the museum and to special events here and loved it! My son loves to the the old trains and cars and the huge model train sets in the museum. Polar Express is excellent! We go every year. We went to Day Out With Thomas last weekend and loved it, too!

This was my first visit to the museum and I was really impressed. Tons of exhibits and awesome vehicles. More than just locomotives, it included noteworthy cars dating back to a steam-powered automobile from 1910.
Even the buildings are really impressive in their scale. I walked through by myself, but this clearly is a great place to bring the kids. There were youngsters everywhere who were absolutely floored.
To me the exhibits were more exciting than the brief train ride, but I wanted to support their efforts. Again, the kids were going bananas though. It's a good cause, and a great way to help keep one more small NC Hamlet from dying. It's well worth the trip.response / report this review -

Well worth the trip and a good value. They have a lot of great historic locomotives and rail cars. There is plenty for kids to do too.
There is definitely room for improvement though. Some exhibits seemed random and out of place. A sign welcoming visitors to the flu shops talks about what the building was used for. Walking in I expected exhibits about that work but was instead met with a bunch of unrelated old automobiles.
Overall many exhibits lacked description. For the train ride around the property, I expected at least a recording that described what we were passing by.
One suggestion I have for the museum is to take some of those car transport rail cars, move them inside the large shop building, put some of the old cars in them and have them open (perhaps removing a side) so visitors can see how they used to transport automobiles. That would be a cool exhibit. If possible, a rail park where visitors could sit and watch trains pass by on the nearby mainline would be cool. An on-site cafe/restaurant would be nice too.response / report this review -

Need to update website. Says it is free to tour the museum. Not true. Paid $30 for 4 of us to go in (2 adults and 2 kids). But I do love this museum. It is different and fun and very interesting.

Amazing place. This is a must for rail fans and people interested in vintage trucks and cars. My 8 year old son is crazy about trains and i thought we would never get him to leave.

Great place to see some history about trains, cars, etc. We have been going for years. My boys love the roundhouse full of trains! Go early,take a picnic and stay all day. Bring water or a water bottle.for hot days. There is a bottle filler water fountain in the newly refurbished building across from the gift shop.

Free train ride with admission. They have a neat train simulator near the picnic area that the kids loved. Big place, so plan on spending some time checking it all out. They have planes and antique cars in addition to all the trains.
