This museum is small but in a good way. It's easy to see the whole thing in an hour and move on with your day. I could see someone spending 2 hours here having some discussions about the art and really taking it in.

Amazing place, great exhibitions of contemporary work from local, California, national and international artists. Lots of programming too, lectures, trips, tours, children's activities, far too much to list. It's really a gem in the community and a reason in itself to come to SB for a visit.

Ever since I came here in 2011 to see the "Home Show, Revisited" exhibition, I knew that MCASB (at the time, SB Contemporary Arts Forum) was a cutting-edge and impressive venue for contemporary art. I sat on blankets at a house in Carpinteria and watched Jennifer West's Jellybowl film at dusk, thinking that it was such an amazing art experience so specific to the West Coast and to my community. They also offer great educational programs, a 24-hour drawing rally, and intricate themed dinners in their Crave series. Worth checking out!
