The real deal. You are always greeted warmly, then provided with caring service. The traditional items such as roast duck, meatloaf and soft shell crabs are always satisfying. Desserts are delicious. I always get some shrimp or lobster salad to take home. Both are superb. The Modern Snack Bar deserves to live forever.

Great comfort food, featuring exceptional roast duck, sauerbraten, prime rib specials, soft shell crabs and lots more. Pies and desserts all homemade & delicious. A local landmark and favorite.

Place was so cozy and old fashioned. Reminded me of those small off the road diners that are friendly and welcoming like this place is. Had a great waitress named Rosetta. She was terrific and went out of her way to serve us. The portion sizes are amazing and the food is delicious. You will not regret it.

Best fried soft shell crabs, lobster salad and pies. You have to try the mashed turnips. They are famous for them. You will never be disappointed if you eat here.

Our family has passed by this restaurant many times on our way to Greenport.Today we decided to try it for dinner. We were glad we did.The dinners have a taste that you know the food is homemade. The pies are excellent too as we bought some pieces to bring home.We liked the older decor, somehow classy and made you think you were in the 50's again and ran by friendly people too.We will return when out on the east end.

We went there every weekend years ago when we lived on Long Island. Now we go there occasionally when we come back to visit family. Food is delicious with a great selection. Only now I use a wheelchair and it's hard to get inside. Yes there's a ramp, but after that it's very narrow with heavy doors. Wish it was more handicap accessible.

Glad we visited this iconic local joint! Good comfort food, tasty local beers on tap, friendly service! We had the turkey dinner with stuffing, gravy, and cranberry - I'm feeling thanksgiving! And the homemade shepherd's pie with roasted mashed potatoes on top. They hit the spot!

Love this 50+ year old restaurant. Great food from local farms. Great home made vegetables, extremely delicious turnips, mashed potatoes. Desserts all home made. Pies are sensational.

Very old-fashioned place that tries very hard to maintain a retro vibe but really caters to an older crowd.

First time visiting this establishment. Funny thing is I lived out here in Mattituck for 7 years and drove past Modern nearly every day but never stopped. This is a wonderful restaurant from the decor and menu, to the great reasonably priced food servings. This place is a must to visit if you are on the eastern end of Long Island.

Good home cooked meals. Wait staff was fast and friendly. We will definitely come back. Had the crab meat stuffed flounder with mashed turnips and fries. All were very good.

Fantastic dinner! Made it for opening night 2017 and it was well worth it. Food was home cooked and the wait staff was attentive and friendly. Place was busy but the wait wasn't long and they were very accommodating. Went with two children and extended family with no issues on a very busy night.

I have no idea what the appeal of this place is. I've only ever been during company luncheons. Even though I didn't have to pay, I still felt shortchanged.

For those who tell you not to come, good. Stay away. You see I'm sometimes on a long line to get in. Why because they are that good. If the food is that bad, why a line to get in? The food and staff. That's why. The best place on the North Folk. Their pork dinner is the best. Need to stay open in the winter. Going back this week, for more pork. Oh they have great home made Cole slaw too. Glad to hear you guy's from the big city west of here. Are going to stay away. One less person on that line.

Best home cooked food on the East End of Long Island. The Restaurant is clean and efficient. The pricing is reasonable. The staff is very friendly (and enjoy working there, it shows). All the food is fresh and delicious. The turnips, lobster salad, soft shell crabs and burgers are all excellent. The deserts are heavenly. You can not have a bad meal here.

Great local restaurant that serves traditional American comfort food such as burgers, sandwiches, roast turkey, meat loaf and chicken pot pie. They are also known for their delicious local dishes including lobster salad, Long Island Duck, clam chowder, soft shell crabs, bay scallops and mashed turnips. They have a good selection of beverages including milkshakes, local wine, soda and draft beer. I come here for the lobster salad and homemade pie. You can get a slice of pie for dessert or buy a whole pie to take home. They have a great kid's menu. This is a good place for families. The also offer daily specials. You can also order anything on the menu for take-out. This restaurant can get very busy during peak times. Some consider the service to be slow here (they prepare each meal fresh when ordered) so bring crayons for the kids. Most meals come with a potato and vegetable and everyone gets a bread basket. I wish this restaurant was open year-round, but they do close during the winter.

Cozy staple of the North Fork I've been coming here since I was a kid. The turkey dinner and hamburgers are excellent and the pies are delicious. Feels like you've been transported to an earlier, simpler time. Comfortable place to eat!
