The owners are nice and friendly. Be aware they only take cash or checks, apparently its still 1982 in most parts of North Carolina. The grounds are a little cramped, not much in the way of seclusion in the camp sites. No hammocks allowed.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Lazy J. This was our first time camping at a private campground versus the state, county and federal parks that we normally go to. Although the sites were not as big as some of the National Forest and Army Corps of Engineer campgrounds, there was plenty of room and privacy on the beautiful river site that we stayed on .A7. The campground operators were super nice and the bathrooms were very clean. The free range chickens also added a nice touch. There was a bit of road noise but we tuned that out after awhile and the river sounds were just wonderful. The campground "driveway", when you first enter the property, is a little rough and steep going up and down but we may be a little "wimpy" when it comes to mountain gravel/dirt roads. The campground is located in a beautiful area with plenty to do and we would definitely return. PS. The rates were also very reasonable.

Spent the 2017 Eclipse at this camp site and had a great time. The owners and full time campera are phenomenal people with great stories. We had a blast drifting down the river that is running next to the campgrounds. Price is great for full hookups. Will be back next year.

Staff were great, very friendly. Campsites were close, but the cover was great for privacy. The bathhouse was very clean and I found it to be very functional. Price was spot on and the scenery was spectacular, we will be back!

I also have mixed feelings about Lazy J. I like the location. I like that ur on the river. The sites were a bit close, but I got over that.
What bothered me, too, was the bathhouse. I stayed from Friday to Sunday and the 1st night I went to clean up, there were a group of boys that had basically trashed the men's side. There are only 2 toilets and 2 showers for the entire campground. One of the toilets leaked and the waterline to the toilets leaked. There was standing water all around one side making it very difficult to use. The showers were okay.
I am looking for a nice place to get away to short notice, and I really believe this place has that potential, it's just that the bathhouse needs repair or upgrading or maybe a second bathhouse needs to be built.

The campground is quite nice with a rustic feel. There is a lot of tree coverage. It was nice camping right by the river. It had rained the day before and nothing was drying. The next day it was a blue sky but very little sun made it to the site, so we had to dry everything out at home. For this reason I recommend to camp here during a dry period. So there was one thing that really bothered me which is the whole reason for this review, and it's the firewood. I don't expect bone dry firewood and I can work with wood that is moist and hard to start. However the wood here was so awful that I felt I was ripped off. I used a ridiculous amount of fire starters and had all the wood well positioned, yet it would not start burning. After all the fire starters had burned out the wood was clearly charred and partially burned. So I put all the wood back into the bucket it came in, so they can sell it to someone else now.

We tent camped here for 3 nights. I have mixed emotions about this campground. The people running the place are really friendly. Our site was right along the river which was nice. The road is right across the river and the traffic noise bothered us the first night, but each day I guess we tuned it out more. The sites are small and close together, but the foliage gave privacy. The one thing that bothered us was the bathhouse. The bathhouse was not cleaned, nor the trashcans emptied the entire time we were there. I'm not sure that I would stay here again based on that fact.
