I'd love to say you get what you pay for but we didn't in our stay. Location is nice but we rented the big house for a large group and the place is super dated and windows would not open and most seem rotted. Only two windows had screens and were very hard to open and had to prop them open with wood. Dead mouse is closet too which was gross. Also the bathroom leaked so bad it dropped down stairs onto dining room table area we had to put a bucket out to catch the water. Place needs a total rehab and not worth $300 a night. We can't speak to food as we went to grocery store in Dubois.

The scenery here is second to none. The staff are accommodating, the food at the restaurant was yummy, the drinks were fabulous. We stayed in the Big House, there are enough beds in here to fit your entire family, your cousins, and their families (kidding, but seriously, you can fit a TON of people in here). If you're expecting modern, updated, or anything other than rustic, keep looking. The carpet is old, the bedding is dated, the mattresses are not divine (some are better than others). Screens are missing from widows. There is only 1 working shower, and 2 toilets, so if you're with a large group, be prepared. I was let down when I arrived, I'm not going to lie to you. I had an asthma attack from all the dust, my eyes burned, but I left a note asking them to vacuum really well, and they did. We propped open a screened window, and it aired out. We found a comfortable mattress, and we settled in. By check out after 4 nights, I was sad to say goodbye. The big house has personality. The night sky is amazing. The general store has what you need. If you're looking to get away and don't need a 5 star hotel, this is the place. The access to the Tetons and Yellowstone is excellent, you can't get lost. Dubois is a short drive away, and a beautiful sight to see anyway. Without question, I would stay here again. I fell in love, in the end.

The hospitality was awesome! We were exhausted. Only the bar was open, but a nice fellow went the distance, got us set up with a room, drinks, and made us sandwiches. Perfect end to a long day!

Food was great. Not a bad stop during the winter months for sleds.

Food wasn't great, mostly grease, but staff was friendly and helpful. Deck has a lovely view with visiting hummingbirds.

The most wonderful surprise in Wyoming is the Lava Mountain Lodge!!!!! A beautiful location with wonderful food especially on the weekends when pit cooked barbecue is on the menu and the wonderful aroma fills the air making it impossible to miss. What happens at this Dubois lodge that is so incredibly different is more about the people than anything else.they are precious, welcoming, kind and extremely fun! For a brief moment I felt that I was a part of this wonderful community of people that truly care about others even a stranger from NC with a unreliable car. The most difficult part of my stay at Lava Mountain was the saying goodbye. With a grateful heart especially to a REAL cowboy & mechanic named " Cowboy Jim" and the other wonderful folks of The Lava Mountain Lodge.I give you my biggest thumbs-up!!!!!

We stayed at lava Lodge during February 2014 snowmobile season. The first three days we stayed in a lodge room and had such a positive experience we rented a Park Model Cabin for the second week. The lodge rooms are very clean and well maintained. The cabin was even better with more room and a great heater for drying our gear every night. The lodge is surrounded by mountains and has great access to multiple trails. The food was excellent, especially prime rib Wednesday and fish fry Friday. The staff treated us like family and went out of their way to help us. James the owner drove into town and got us parts for a broken snow machine so we could keep riding. You have to meet Cowboy Jim, a real cowboy that runs the shop. He can give you great tips on places to go and sites to see, and will insist you bring your sled into the heated shop to make any repairs. Great scenery and even better people. We will definitely go back and visit again.
