As a native Chinese who is very fond of sichuan food, i would say this is one of the best sichuan restaurants i have been to in the united states.
Ask for extra tip after we paid, this is unacceptable and desire a 0 star.
Some food are OK, others are bad, really depends on what you ordered. I came from Sichuan and their food is not very Sichuan style. I can only give it 2/5 based on their food quality.
But I won’t visit again. Not a restaurant ask for extra tip after we paid and already decided the tip we are willing to put on the bill.
Absolutely amazing service and delicious food! The covered pork (belly) was a total dream. Highly recommend.
Top notch Szechuan cuisine in the heart of midtown Manhattan. The food is satisfyingly spicy and flavorful. If you crave or are curious about the numbing and tingling sensation of the Sichuan peppercorn, then absolutely give this place a try. I recommend the Szechuan Pork Dumplings, Stir-Fried Chicken w/ Spicy Capsicum, the spicy lamb chops, and just about everything else on the menu!
Best Lo Mein I have ever had. Pork Soup Dumplings are ridiculously tasty! Very fairly priced especially for taste, quality and setting. Impressed.
One of the few really delicious and authentic Sichuan Chinese restaurant in Manhattan. I may be using the word authentic a lot in this review, I mean, what other work would be a good substitute? Some of the low rating yelp reviews are ridiculous, grading this place on non Sichuan dishes when no one in the know would order a dish that's outside what the restaurant specializes in.
My recs:
Apps: spicy pig ears, liang fen 凉粉
Mains: fragrant 香辣 lamb is super tender, capsicum chicken 三椒煸鸡, even the kung pao chicken is awesome
How you can tell this place is authentic (3) and good. Last time I was there giant groups of local Chinese made reservations. In general, a Chinese restaurant tend to be authentic (4) and good if it's filled with Chinese people. As for the prices, they are reasonable, hell, these dishes cost the same in comparable restaurants in Atlanta (where a monthly mortgage tend to be less than the apt rent in Manhattan).
Visited for the first time this weekend - definitely one of the better Sichuan places in the city. Venture out into the authentic chinese menu for good eats!
Love the food! I had Chongging spicy chicken, it was delicious!
The service was okay.
Authentic Sichuan food, amazing flavors and seriously spicy. Must try the cold Sichuan noodles So good
The food tasted awesome, I recommend the spicy chicken, but the fish's taste was a little too light, everything else was good.
The food is great but the service needs improvement. I was with my friend and we had to ask for the rice twice which came with the food but didn't. We had to try to get the attention of the waiter but was hard as it seemed he catered more to the Asian customers than us. So if you want good food this is the place just expect to be discriminated against.
The food here is outstanding, but you need to ask for the dinner menu (which is pretty much pictures). Be warned that if it says spicy, it is incredibly spicy. Well worth it if you are looking for something closer to authentic -- although there is a basic lunch menu which has all the standard stuff you can get anywhere in NYC.
Love the openness of the restaurant. There is a very nice patio section and they play movies projected onto a large white wall after it gets dark. The food is good here. They seem to like Cumin so if you don't like that spice, maybe you should try somewhere else.
Their drinks aren't that good. All their beers are bottled and their cocktails were very average. The cocktails are not worth the price they charge. For example, We got a Darby Shaw cocktail and it tasted like a plain lemonade. Boring!
I liked the Sesame Fried Chicken. Very crispy skin and still very juicy meat. The chicken has a hint of cumin and has a sweet component to it.
The pork chop was huge and juicy (a little raw towards the bone). It was heavy on the cumin so if you like to taste the pork, you won't get that since the cumin overpowers the pork flavor.
