The winter yurt experience is perfect. Plenty of bed space and heat in the yurt. The park is a great place to hike in December. Know that AT&T connectivity is great but T-Mobile is practically non-existent. There aren't many people around so keep emergency planning in mind.

It is lovely place to visit. It is a man made lake (I think largest in US, but not sure). I have been their during winter. However, I really want to let you know winter is not the best time to visit this place. Best time to visit this place is summer.
However, during this time there were very less activities in the lake. We were not able to take a boat ride.
But still we were able to do fishing. Watching sunset and sunrise with a cup of tea was a different experience.
If you visit this place during summer please plan ahead. The lake will be crowed. You need to take swimming, boating and fishing thighs. And take to friends to make it more memorable.response / report this review -

Visited in late fall, beautiful park. Stayed in basic cabin, electricity only. Very reasonably priced, clean and felt secluded. Short walk to common bathhouse, clean and well maintained.

We always enjoy ourselves. Great place to camp or rent a cabin. Great view of the Lake of the Ozarks. We go twice a year. We saw 5 turkeys crossing the road. And also there were lots of deer. Great place to get in touch with Nature.

The lakes are beautiful but we never found just a beach to swim at. There's tons of little shops for shopping, ice cream, fudge, dining and shopping. There are tour boats, but you need to book early, they fill up fast! Lots of boats and jet ski rentals. We did end up going back to the state park and swimming there, it was nice and there are grills, picnic areas and camping too.

This review is for Show Me trails horseback riding located in the Lake of the Ozarks State Park. I just wanted to warn everyone NOT to use this business. If you want to go horseback riding while at the lake, save your money and emotional energy and go to Owens Ranch Stables. For the same amount of money($35) you can ride for twice as long1 hour instead of 30 minutes. Show Me Trails was such a complete and total rip off. I have never left a negative review before, but felt compelled to spare other people what I went through. Believe me when I say this is not a good way to spend your money at the lake! My daughter has been wanting to go on a trail ride since last summer, so we looked into this placereally wish I had done some research first! I asked if my 3 year old could ride with an adult because I said he would NOT ride a horse by himself. The woman( wife and mother in law to the two owners) told me they had Pony rides for $30 and they would lead the pony. So I paid almost $120 including the tip for my three children to ride for 30 minutes. Then, they brought out a large horse for my three year old to ride, which, of course, he refused to get on! The woman told me that their small horses were all at a birthday party and did not offer a refund. Long story short, she eventually said we could have one, only for the owner, who was SO ruderefused to give! Also, the other ownerthe husband and dad, who took my two older kids out was so rude and condensing to them ..He just did not approach them in a fun, light hearted way at all. He was rude and serious. There are no words to adequately describe how much I do not recommend this business! Such a waste of money and their customer service is just unbelievable. The daughter who refused to give us the refund was just so rudereally unbelievable. I do not recommend this business at all.

This place was amazing. We had two 12 year olds with us and they never got bored. They were off electronics and in the water playing, in a boat rowing, feeding the critters and watching the beautiful display of deer that come out of the woods each night. The restrooms were plentiful and very clean. Great counter space to blow dry your hair and enough plugs to heat up an iron also. Close to mini golf and go carts. We will definitely be back. Very peaceful.

We thoroughly enjoyed the cave tour. Each individual gets their own electric lantern for the unlit cavern. There is a shower formation with a bathtub formation beneath it. This is the only one in a North American show cave according to the guide.
We also enjoyed the self guided nature trail near the cave entrance. It's a one mile loop with a fair number of elevation changes along the way with boulders on the trail, so trekking poles are very nice for those who want more stability.response / report this review -

We. LOVED. This. Place! We were only there or a day, but we wish we could've stayed longer! The lake was gorgeous. The campground was beautiful with nicely paved roads. There were so many deer!!! It was beautiful! We pulled up to our yurt, and there was one right in front of it! The yurt was amazing! I liked the paved area in front of the yurt. It was nice to have with grilling and with the campfire. The wrap around deck was a great bonus! The inside was like a tardis! It seemed bigger on the inside than it was on the outside. Loved that it had a fridge and microwave. The beds were as comfortable as would be expected. The whole yurt and outside area was super clean. We stayed in the yurt that was approved for dogs, and our dog did well with it. It didn't smell of other dogs. The bathrooms were just across the street, a couple minute walk. I have nothing bad to say about this park! We'd love to go back and stay longer!

Clean park with expansive fields to play games with others. Decent parking and shaded areas makes this one of my favorite places in the area.

The park is huge, and there is something for everyone. Playgrounds, camping, beach, hiking, scenery for picture taking. Lots of quiet places to read and relax or picnic. Explore and you will find some unique things to see.

I would have given this five stars, but one of the hosts (a newer guy) ruined that. He was very rude to me when I got lost at one point and apparently drove onto a gravel drive that I was not supposed to. The other host was totally great and more than welcoming, and apologized for that incident.
Other than that, I would definitely recommend camping here! I got a basic site right up against the water which was beautiful, and a good sized site with plenty of privacy. I have verizon and got zero reception at my campsite (which could be a good or a bad thing--I actually enjoyed it). due to it being so low. I had to drive just outside of the campground to get 4G service. The showers are nice for a campground and really do smell like a sauna. The bathrooms are cleaned daily and are pretty nice also.
As others have said, the park is HUGE and there is no way to drive through the middle, so plan on doing a little driving to get to different parks. Also note that the "Camper Store" is closed in the off season, so I had to go to the laundromat outside the park to get ice, which is about a 20 minute round trip.
I would recommend hiking the trails in the park, you don't have to go far to feel like you are secluded and surrounded by diverse wildlife.
Also recommended are: Ha Ha Tonka State Park (Amazing!), Owens Ranch Stables (Fun horseback ride for a low price), The Cozy Cafe for breakfast.

Hosts are very nice. Lots of roomy campsites. Campground is right on the lake. Easy access to a huge variety of trails for every level of hiker. Showers are warm and clean and smell like a sauna. FYI the roads outside the campground are too narrow to bike on so you have to drive to the trail heads. No mosquitoes when we were there made it very pleasant.

This place was amazing.
A few things though. Print off a map of the park before you go, as it can be a bit like a maze driving around and GPS doesn't work in all areas. The actual park is quite LARGE and you have to drive around it to get anywhere, as you cannot drive through it.
Bring an inflatable camping mattress if you want to sleep. The "mattresses" that are provided are nearly as hard as sleeping on the floor. Even a memory foam-type something would help.
The cabin itself is quaint and you will leave with good memories. A note about cabin 3. It is far, FAR from the bathrooms/parking. And it's downhill from parking so for anyone who is not necessarily handicapped but not fit or has any sort of pain or is elderly, I'd recommend cabin 1 or 2, in that order. I'd also recommend a bucket for any females staying in cabin 3 and yes, that is serious. A middle-of-the-night trek to the bathroom would not be a welcome idea.
The saving grace about cabin 3 is its seclusion and view. You can see the water from the porch. You can also hike down to the water (not a beach and not a place for swimming) and there is a trail that goes along the water in one direction, and into the woods in the other. It is an advanced hiking trail, though, so beware of that. A walking stick can prevent tripping mishaps.
It was a great experience. I will stay in cabin 2 next time, though. The cabins are very bare but that's nice. There is only one light in them, so camping lanterns are a must. I would highly recommend.response / report this review
