I've stayed at this resort many times and I really enjoy it every time. Very quaint, the staff is always friendly. There was a problem with my room's plumbing prior to our arrival so I was called a few days before to say they couldn't accommodate my wife and I, but they assured us the sister resort up the street was the same price, with the same accommodations (full kitchen, waterfront, etc.). We went into what was a non-labled rental office, where the woman I assume was the manager, and my wife was quickly asked if she was "jobless". We were wearing clean casual clothes, so my wife was of course offended. We checked into what was basically an unfinished renovation. There was no stove, the bathroom window was clear glass with no blind, which was very visible to the seedy trailer park the building was next to, there was very little water pressure, there was a construction dumpster about 20 feet from the front door, and it was WAY farther from the water than "waterfront". Sooo, long story short, our moods deteriorating quickly. Problems happen, it's how they are dealt with that determines the outcome.
I calmly called La Jolla, spoke with them and explained the swap they were attempting was like a bad joke, and that the other place was unacceptable. Fortunately, they had a cancellation at La Jolla so we were able to cruise back to them where they put us in a better room than the one we had booked originally, and we had a great stay. Personally I would have rated this stay 4 stars, but I've had too many excellent stays to let one that had to be fixed influence their score.response / report this review -

Thanks to Ana and all the staff here it helped so much after being displaced by Irma!!! Ana went above and beyond to help me and my family feel welcome!!! She is a Jewel to be treasured. 😄😄😄 Thanks for your help in such a trying time.

Great place for the family they provide free kayaks, fishing poles, scuba gear, and more. Very hospitable to the hurricane victims from hurricane Irma. Would definitely come back.

My husband and I stayed there for 3 nights while bringing supplies down from Fort Lauderdale for Hurricane Irma victims and it was WONDERFUL! The staff was so so amazing..Ann especially! The rooms are clean, comfortable, and just perfect for The Keys. I would highly recommend La Jolla to anyone coming down to enjoy the BEAUTIFUL Florida0 Keys!!! We will be back soon..THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING! #keysstrong

Nice place, rooms are kept up fairly well but needs some updating in rooms to meet today's standards. Our room had a window insert for the AC that kept the room cool but was noisy and cycled on/off every few minutes or so.
The location/grounds are great - we sat outside at the water (they have outside tables & chairs) and enjoyed the evening with some gin and cigars.
They have a boat launch and docks but be aware that it is pretty narrow launch and not a straight backin for you trailer.response / report this review -

Great for people with boats. Excellent slips, nice rooming, plenty of beach space. Located close to World Wide Sportsman, which makes quick trips for supplies convenient. There's also a Pokémon Go gym next door, for anybody interested. Been staying here annually for years. Highly recommend.

Large clean rooms with a classic Keys feel. The staff was very kind and accommodating. The grounds were wonderful, pool and ocean very nice and lots of fun wildlife. Would highly recommend, especially for the price.

Old school Keys hurricane proof hotel.*
My room was clean and comfortable. View was great.
Did not like the bathroom. It was too small. Definitely before ADA enactment. Slippery shower stall.
Boat ramp and slips on site were very convenient for my fishing.
*Subsequent to writing the above, I opened the bay window curtain and found that the building had suffered what to me was a significant structural failure.
I asked for and got a refund for the unused days I had left. I probably would not have stayed here a second time but that is a certainty now. There are too many other options in the keys.response / report this review -

Great room. Clean. Helpful office staff. Fishing on site was fun. Proximity to places is also great. They have bicycles for you to use around the island. Service was great, I would definitely come back.
