Have eaten at many restaurants in Atlanta and Kimball House never disappoints. It's our favorite so far. They're food tastes super fresh and they don't try too hard to be all fancy. Just simple fresh good food.
The best selection of oysters. Delicious drinks. Outstanding dishes. Good service. My favorites are the New Tokyo cocktail, the Hawaiian roll and the Hoppin John (vegetarian).
My wife took me here for my birthday and holy cow! Everything from the service to the music to the general atmosphere was killer. We started with cocktails and super fresh oysters, moved on to apps, and the best steak of my life. I swear, this steak was buttah. Dessert was the buttermilk cake. It's different, so if you're a dessert traditionalist, you might want something else. But if you're adventurous you won't be disappointed! I give it five stars because 10 is not an option.
Oysters are amazing. It's a hot spot for sure. It's definitely a place for a younger scene. As in 30's 40's or younger. This may seem strange but the lighting is so dim. Like you can't see the menu unless you have a flashlight. I want to love this place but it's super expensive and in the end the food was ok. My dads steak was a grass fed beef steak, and as much as I admire the farm to table experience he couldn't chew it because it was so tough. I had scallops with faro but it seamed disjointed and heavy. The girl at the table next to me exclaimed that she felt like she was eating grass. Like something on her plate was actually grass. I love the guys who own this place and I want to come back. For now it will be for oysters and something that is not grass.
We went to Kimball House on a Friday night at 8pm without a reservation & were quoted a 30+ minute wait. The hostess told us there was plenty of room at the bar if we wanted to have an appetizer or a cocktail, so we sat down & ordered some oysters & cocktails.
Our bartenders were awesome & attentive so we asked them to chose our oyster selection & they were absolutely phenomenal. We enjoyed them so much that we eventually ordered 3 dozen! We ordered 2 other starters; a delicious cheese plate & a beef tartar that were both outta this world. We intended to sit down at a table & have an actual dinner, but we had so many cocktails & appetizers that we decided to save the rest of the menu for another night.
Our first visit was perfect. The staff was knowlegable, the food was so tasty, the vibe was cool & the bathrooms smelled really, really great!
Parking is difficult. And the last time we were here the air conditioning wasn't working and it was quite hot. However, they have the best oysters in the world. Also the bartender is one of the best in the city. Great place to come for anniversary.
We visited the Kimball House for dinner this Saturday night. The greeters were very good and seated us promptly. Seated at 6:20 PM. I was not sure who our server was because we had a different person take our drink order, our appetizer and food order, and checking on us. The appetizers were good. The Alaskan oysters were superb. The service was OK. But the flow of service was very poor. Seated at 6:20 PM, our meal arrived at 7:30 PM and had the look of something that had sat under heat lights for longer than it should have. I'm sure our table was forgotten. Its a shame because as a first impression, I expected more. I doubt I will be back and I know I wont recommend it to others.
We came here for our anniversary and it was wonderful. Everything from the food to the staff to the environment was above and beyond what I could have hoped for on our special night. It was all around excellent. I would highly recommend for a special evening out. The restaurant is located the old Decatur train depot. The antique interior design with original and time period appropriate pieces is just awesome. The staff knew it was our anniversary and presented us with complimentary champagne. We had a caviar service and steak dinner with kale Caesar and leek soup and a roasted duck breast. All excellent. 10/10 will go again.
Awesome food. The best restaurant in Decatur. Great cocktails. Oyster selection phenomenal. Half priced during happy hour. Go-to restaurant for any celebration.
Great and unique cocktails, and amazing looking and sounding food, but well beyond my price point.
This is my favorite restaurant in the Bay Area. Their cooking technique is impeccable. Everything was cooked beautifully, and all the elements of each dish was constructed perfectly. The quality of ingredients is off the charts, and the creativeness of the dishes is as well. I would eat here all the time if it were cheaper, but alas, it's impossible to eat this kind of food cheaply. I relish my time here and can't recommend it enough.
Best food, service and ambience in the city. Great for a date night or drink after work. Knowledgeable and helpful staff make this a place I will visit again and again. A++
Great 1920's decor and smart service. The entrees range from mid $20s to $150 or so. I enjoyed the Kimball House cocktail and the peppercorn steak, and my wife had the pork belly. Make sure to make a reservation to guarantee a spot at this busy venue.
