I have been to amazing tropical gardens in the past: Mae Hong Son (Thailand), the Jardin de Balata on Martinique and also the Jardin Botanique in Deshaies (Guadeloupe). Those gardens were magnificent!!!
The Key West Botanical Garden next to them is night and day. A boardwalk through boring vegetation, almost no flowers, just a few animals in the artificial pond. Talking about the pond: what a great way to contribute to mosquito population growth!
I was in and out in 20 minutes to be honest.
$7 per person: what a rip off!!! I felt like I was giving them money to recreate a garden after a hurricane.
On top of that, the staff was really unfriendly and that's why I give only one star. I would have given two stars but the whole experience gave me a bad aftertaste.
If you want to be wowed, go to the Key West Garden Club located at the West Martello Tower on Atlantic Blvd. The location is spectacular with commending views on the ocean The garden is much smaller but so much more appealing, and you can enjoy a picnic lunch with a view and look at the sea. On top of that, it is a free tourist attraction. A donation is appreciated. I would rather give them my money than spending it at the Key West Botanical Garden!
To sum it up, follow my advice and go to the Key West Garden Club if you don't know about it. It's a hidden gem! You'll be glad that you read my review on Yelp!response / report this review -

Very nice place. I learned a lot about how fragile our environment is. Everyone that visit the keys should visit.

Worth a visit, lots of walking to be done here. Saw a number of different species of butterflies, shrubs, trees, cacti, and some turtles. Make sure to bring water, also mosquitoes can be an issue. Might want good ankle support, some of the trails are really well maintained, some are roots and rocks.

Great location with an amazing variety of plants and a long history.
Please note this is not a horticultural garden with nicely manicured lawns and shrubs, there are no topiaries - this is a natural garden with botanical specimens which has been growing naturally for over 80 years, and some of it can be difficult to trek through. But if you love palm trees, you will see palm trees here which you may not see anywhere else in the country.response / report this review -

The lady at the check in was very nice and she knew her garden! Everything was green.not that green isn't beautiful, because it is! We were just expecting more flowers and colors. Being outdoors they have no control over the birds or butterflies that do or do not visit.

The plants are pretty and maintained well with great handwritten boards describing the plants and there uses but there is no esthetic flow. It's a poorly designed hodgepodge of trails, random small rock walls, cheap plastic chairs and then a very well done boardwalk placed onto that. You end up not sure as to where you can and can not walk. The place has the potential to be amazing if someone comes in cleans out the old abandoned projects, cleans up the paths and invest in matching clean furniture.

Some people say it may look unkept but that is the beauty of it!! Perfect for a picnic lunch with your loved one .
