At the heart of this national historic district is the old mining town of Calumet. Not quite a ghost town but every bit as colorful as any boomtown in the west. Copper was king here. Of note: St Annes, the old firehouse and theatre directly across the street. Some mines in area still offer tours as well.

I could spend an entire month exploring this peninsula. Excellent job on the restoration process. History comes alive here. Remote. Peaceful. Surprises around every corner.

Loads of history about the Copper Country! It's very cool to have a national park site right in our backyard, and they've done a great job of preserving historical sites and the story of our area. While the park doesn't own a lot itself, it does partner with other organizations and private individuals to do what they can to keep history alive for future generations to discover.

So much to see and do in the Keweenaw! Relaxing at it's finest. Beautiful sights around every corner. Places may be few and far between but worth the drive. Our favorite area is the reconstructed houses at Central Mine.

The main headquarters located in Calumet is not much to see but the museum in the Union building will take 2-3 hours to browse through. Just one stop on over 20 you can make as you visit the sites across the Keweenaw. The park stretches for over 100 miles from the Porcupine Mts to Fort Wilkins, and will take several days to visit all of the sites.
