I am long-overdue to write about our 2 experiences adopting adult dogs seized by Animal Control. First, there was "Ruby" a poodle mix who was forced to live year round, outdoors in rainy/chilly Mt Vernon. She & her brother were rescued by AC & brought to Skagit Valley Humane Shelter. "Ruby" was untrusting at first when we adopted her but she turned into an appreciative love-bug soon after. Quite the little character. Jump ahead a few years & we adopted a dog (renamed from Fritz then Perry beforehand to "Bruno") who'd been returned twice as suddenly unsuitable (changed their minds?). He too is now a great little Joe Pesci attitude kinda dog. Both times we adopted, the staff were knowledgeable & interested in making sure we understood about these dogs quirks. They gave us the time we needed to make a good decision. My husband & I would gladly adopt again from this Humane Society.

I adopted a dog there and after 13 great years he died of cancer. I tried to adopt another dog, but after a year of trying and applying for 5 dogs, I gave up and went to an adoption fair. Got a great dog from Wenatchee. I don't know why they did not want me to adopt. I don't have kids? My 7 acres are not fenced?

very well run. we adopted a dog here and it became a Service Dog after training. Most dogs just need training, right placement.

This shelter made me lose hope in all humane societies. We too were denied a great dog simply because they liked other people betterw. My boyfriend and I went in daily and volunteered and played with this dog who we fell in love with. We also volunteered there just to prove how committed we were. We were treated horribly by the staff like it was a burden for us to be there. Once they adopted out the dog we had been getting to know for a week we went on to buy a craigslist dog. I have lost all hope in humane societies because of you and would love to save a dog if YOU GUYS MADE IT POSSIBLE. Need new staff and a new director to improve at all.

I feel like we were treated horrible by some of the staff here. we were interested in a really great dog and put in an application and visited him daily to take him out and play, but not without eye rolls and poor treatment. All we wanted was to give an unwanted dog a loving home. after days of waiting and visiting to show just how much we wanted to take this poor dog home we get a voicemail that our application was great but so was these other peoples. we put in effort to make it known we had a great home waiting for this dog and we got treated like we were irritating front staff who would rather have a dog sit in a kennel all day than have someone take him out and give him some much needed attention. not to mention losing what we thought was going to be the perfect dog after losing our girl to cancer almost a year ago. we have been searching for months. highly irritated and dissapointed.

75 dollars to relinquish a stray animal you are trying to help? Are you not the Humane Society of Skagit County? Do you understand we already pay your "intake fees" through donations we make because we care about these strays that get abandoned by people? No wonder people are abandoning animals if you can't even bring a stray in let alone give up animal instead of abandoning it. Charged by a charity ran by donations to do its job. Something needs to be done to this places operations standards. I have never been charged for bringing in a sick or injured animal, domestic or otherwise.

So awesome!! The kitten rooms are always so clean, the cats are so sweet, and I love how they have them in the open. I also love the dog wings because they are so clean as well, And because my Dad volunteers there, I get to take lots of dogs on walks!!
And I was wondering, we had fallen in love with a dog called Marshall. Anyone adopt him that could tell me? Because I'd love to keep up on Marshall!!

The staff were great about making sure I was an appropriate match for the dog I wanted- and as it turned out I wasn't! I did eventually end up with a great dog from them and I am so glad I was open to listen to their advice because the dog I did adopt is a perfect fit for me.
As a side, the vet I established care with offered to do a surgical fix if necessary for FREE because my dog came from the Skagit Humane Society and he has a lot of respect for how they care for the animals!

Worst experience at a shelter ever. I applied for a dog there and was very excited to adopt a beautiful little puppy. I called frequently asking if a decision had been made and they ensured me every single time that there was no decision and to keep checking back. After checking in again, I had enough and went down there because at least I could see her. Sure enough, the dog was long gone. Ridiculous.

The staff here are friendly and helpful. Definitely a step up from the Bellingham Human Society. Kennels were clean and dogs seemed happy, well as happy as they can be

Wonderful staff who will take time to answer questions even when they have to balance running around taking care of animals. They don't try to make you feel like a criminal for wanting to adopt a pet like some shelters do, and they have awesome indoor/outdoor enclosures for both the cats and dogs.
