We have nothing but wonderful things to say about our recent adoption experience with the Humane Society of Catawba County - truly a well run charitable organization! The animals are kept in the best conditions and you can tell they are all showered with more love there than they ever received in their lives prior to arriving there. The volunteer staff was friendly, courteous and helpful. I love how the emphasis is where it should be - on the precious animals in their care. I also enjoyed the shopping area, too! ; ) Thank you for all you do for the animals!!!

The staff was friendly for the most part and they took great care of the animals but when It came down to us finding a dog we really wanted we weren't able to make sure she would get a long with our other dogs because of paper work and waiting. It was a complete turn off for the dog. I get that you have to make sure all the animals are vaccinated but if you want to save them I think it should be an easier process to adopt.

Animal shelters in general are great places to get a pet. My mother adopted our cat Dorothy recently and it was a really soothe experience. The staff reviewed the application and approved my mom quickly and we could take her home that day. A worker sits down and goes overall information about the pet and making sure you know how to care them(their current diet and to slowly change that or keep it the same), their medical files, all paperwork done when the animal was first brought into the shelters care and microchip information. We were even given some of the food she was already eating to help make the transition easier on her. This sweet cat was 10 years old when we got her and she is healthy enough she will have a long happy life with us,
Things about this shelter i love:
-volunteers (normal people) help socialize and play with the animals.
-it is NO kill!
-all animals have to be assessed before they can be put up to adoption so you will get a friendly (non violent) furry friend
-when you go to adopt they have pet supplies available from toys, collars/leashes, food and treats, and kennels or cages.
-they can also fix animals for a low fee.
-the have cats that can be adopted to be barn cats
notes:
-anyone with the age of 16 I believe can submit and application online to volunteer here.
-you have to be over 21 to adopt.

The specials they run, for example, the microchipping, has been great for our family that's on a budget! It was extremely affordable. They also take very good care of the animals here!

Very nice people. They contacted me twice during my dogs surgeries. They also found some other issues that they called and asked if i wanted them to fix at the same time. 2 dogs were done and done cheaper than my home vet could do just one. Glad to see they put animal and human happiness above money. 5 stars from me

We recently moved from Miami and was looking for a vet to have our dogs receive their rabies vaccination. Our neighbor suggested to us that we take them to Catawba humane society and I am glad we did. The staff members were friendly and sitting among a large group of people waiting for services was a pleasant experience. Everyone sharing stories of their pets that they had rescued or going to adopt. Will definitely return.

I visited here on May 19th, 2017. And everyone I met spoke to me when I entered the building, asked if I needed help. I went because I'm interested in adopting a dog and what better place to start than here. Denise helped me and I found the exact dog for my family! Hopefully everything will go good with the meet & greet with my current dog and by this time next week, we'll have a new fur member in the house. I read a comment about the employees/volunteers being rude. I can see where one might think this. BUT we all have to remember what the people who work there go through on a daily, if not hourly basis. They have been faced with animal abuse, animal neglect and who knows what else. They live it every day and its not something they get to forget about when they "clock out" at the end of the day. So it is only understandable if one might walk in and find them a bit "rude". You never know what may have happened five minutes before you walked into the door and they are just trying to recover from it. This is a good place with good hearted people who care about what they do. I hope it all works out and my family gets to adopt from here tomorrow. But if we don't, then its because things just didn't work out and it was of no fault of the Humane Society here. Also please remember, they go on donations. Donation for supplies, donations of time for people willing to walk the dogs, spend time with the cats. Clean kennels, etc. Please help if you can. If you have time, help scoop a litter box, walk a dog, donate time to clean a kennel or two. Anything helps and Im sure everyone will appreciate it.

I went in today looking to adopt a cat. I fell in love with 2 beautiful kittens that I attending on adopting and giving them a loving caring home. When it came time to adopt them I was told that I could not because I have 2 full blooded dogs that have not been neutered. I was told I would have to have them neutered before I would be allowed to adopt the 2 kittens. I understand that they believe in spaying and neutering pets, that is why every dog and cat you adopt from the humane society is spayed or neutered before adoption. I do not understand why it matters if you have a pet already that is not. They preach about finding loving and caring homes for animals but that's not true. Today they could have placed 2 kittens in a very loving home but didn't, because my 2 dogs was not neutered and the 2 kittens were neutered. Sad and Heart broken.😢
