Lots of neat history of the Native American culture. They host Live Events and I saw a hoop dancing event there. Would highly recommend.

This is one of must-visit private museums in Phoenix AZ, which I have heard about from a local with whom I had breakfast with at my hotel. I showed up just in time for the guided tour by their very well read docents who tried to give us as much information as they could.

The museum has a lot to show and offer to anyone who is interested about life and culture of Indians in South-West USA. I have not known much about except from the movies, which I know are mostly fiction. In this museum, you will learn about the greatness and beauty of their culture and history.

The museum is super conveniently located, and they had free tours (after cost of admission) starting pretty regularly it seemed. Call to make sure they've got tours starting near when you get there, but we only had to wait 15 minutes.

The Indian School exhibit seemed to be very well done. It provided a glance into one of the many flagrant human rights abuses our nation has perpetrated, without feeling exploitative. Others may have a different opinion, which is dialogue this exhibit can and should inspire, and everyone's take away will be different. Go see it and see what you think.

The exhibits are really well done here. We took one of the free tours and were very impressed with the knowledge and excitement of the docent. If you go, wear comfortable shoes.

Largest southwest collection in the U.S. It is a good educational museum that can please everyone. It can easily take 3 hours to casually walk through the museum. You probably can spend much more time because there are so many interesting things to see. The downside is that there is not enough explanation for certain pieces. I think it should be better displayed - put one tribal stuff into one display - not mixing all tribal stuff together. It gets confusing and you do not know what tribal costume or dolls you are looking at. There should be more definition or explanations about the individual tribes so we can see and compare the differences in their art and designs.

Security could be nicer when I asked her a simple question, we didn't do anything wrong besides walk into an exhibit we didn't know we needed a sticker to get into. There was no signs. Other than that I love this place.
It doesn't kill to be nice.

Even young children will enjoy the glass artwork shaped after the desert and ceremonial clothing and history. A must if you want to learn and understand Arizona and American history and feel transported into years past.

The place was amazing. The interior layout and it's whole design was beautiful and all the exhibits were very educational and interesting (even the ones that i don't usually enjoy). In general a very pleasant experience, definitely worth visiting.
P.s. The Indian boarding school section was utterly overwhelming.

A well designed museum, the Heard Museum is a popular attraction for a reason. Plenty of history with the occasional rotating exhibits, this is a great stop for the museum and history lover. It can be a little on the expensive side, but worth it if you're looking to learn more about the local Native American tribes and their cultures. It's recommend to give yourself around 2 hours to view it all, but you could easily cover it all in an hour if needed. I'm not sure if I would recommend this for younger kids as they might not be as interested, but obviously that would depend whether they are interested in this kind of thing or not. If you're looking for something to do in the downtown Phoenix area, this might be right up your alley!

We thoroughly enjoyed our visit. We were very impressed with the facilities and the exhibits. The placement and legibility of the exhibit signage made it easy to navigate. Employees were knowledgeable and friendly. We received excellent service in the cafe and the food was delicious. The store personnel in Books and More were attentive and helpful. We highly recommend Heard Museum.

Awesome venue for a holiday party!

Open bar (of course just beer & wine) but their various buffet style food was good too. From sandwiches to dim sum & even tacos, I was definitely in a good state during my time there.

Planetarium was elegant, rooftop was too cold but there were also reindeer outside as well. All in all a good night!

Nice comprehensive collection of Native American art and culture. Plus they are great enough to get the Frida Kahlo exhibit to come there.

The building itself is designed nicely in a hacienda style. Parking is usually adequate and access is easy.

The Heard Museum is known for its exhibits of the arts and cultures of Native Americans or American Indians with emphasis on the people of Southwest. The artworks are beautiful and a blend of modern and traditional heritage of the Southwest which include visual art, indigenous ceramics and pottery, paintings, new and vintage jewelry, the art of weaving, wood carvings and a lot more. There are on going and new exhibits throughout the year. The exhibits indicate the diversity and richness of Native American art and history. There are daily public tours and special programs for groups and children and adults. In the facility there is a museum shop, a courtyard cafe, a coffee cantina, a "book and more" section, and the collector's room. Visiting the Heard museum is a truly enjoyable and unique experience.

Awesome museum, the collections they have are gorgeous. Tickets are about ~$18 but if you have a student ID, it's $7.50. Take the guided tour, the tour guides are very knowledgeable and will answer questions. Also visit the Boarding room exhibit, it provides an interesting look into history. Awesome way to spend an hour or 2 when visiting Phoenix.

Wonderful place to learn about the Navajo, Hopi, Zuni, and Apache Indians in the Southwest. The guided tours are amazing. If you have the time take more than one tour with different guides. Each has his own perspective. Boarding school exhibit is depressing but realistic. Super friendly personnel. Great shop if you like spending some money in original art.
