Great place to go for a stroll, walk your pet, no services during winter, no restrooms nor trash receptacles! If you bring a pet keep them leashed and carry out their poop!
My wife and I got married here the planning and price were easy and reasonable
Beautiful scenery. Nice playground for kids. Not bathroom during the off season.
Brought some international staff here to give them a taste of home, ours & theirs, as well as showing staff who've never been near the ocean a true NEW ENGLAND feel.. They said it was their best place they've seen since coming to the USA.. It's been a favorite of mine growing up about 45 minutes away & wish I had time to go more often.. I just wish it wasn't $5 per person. I understand the need to charge to go here but It adds up when stopping for only an hour or less. The amount of excrement in the field ( any grassy area ) is a huge turn off too.. I wish someone would make an attempt to clean it since some groups pay close to $40 to go inside the gate. Doesn't make you want to have your cookout or picnic when there's no clean area except the Sandy beach to sit on a blanket unkessbyou bring your own rake
The Portsmouth Harbor Lighthouse is located on Coast Guard Station Portsmouth Harbor in New Castle, NH. The grounds around the Lighthouse are not open except during open houses and special events and we were on a tight schedule. It seemed to me that viewing from the Great Island Common the day and time we were there would be a better choice for our photograph.
not a great place if you are looking for spending time on beach + sea. This place has a rocky shore and lot of sea weed patches floating, which is often annoying..Towards the end of the shore, water smells awful due to a lot of sea weed floating around..But it has big green grass laid park, play area and a plenty of BBQ spots.. Bathrooms are not bad..They collect entry fee ($4 per person) but don't provide a trash bag..So do carry one, as there are no trash cans.
Beautiful family beach that is well taken care of. Not appropriate for the party crowd which makes it great for people with children. Nice playground.
The beach is very calm for younger kids. There is a playground for when they aren't interested in the beach/water. There is a large open grassy area for playing anything. The kids love the large rocks for climbing. There are some in the grassy area and some in the ocean. Great place to bring a bbq or use their built-in grills and hang out for the day.
Best family spot. Can spend all day here!!
Great Island Common, aka New Castle Common of just "the commons", is a popular destination spot on the New Hampshire Seacoast. Picnic, beaches, great views of the Portsmouth Harbor mouth and two lighthouses. A very cool space to visit in at any time of year.
The BEST place to bring small people - beach, playground, breezes. Sorry no dogs in warmer season though
Great views. Even in season its not too crowded since the park seems to be mostly used by locals. WARNING! Do not let the elderly or small children or anyone with ballance issues go out to the end of the walkway, past the handrail section. The tides here are very strong and will (will, not may) sweep them over the edge.
A nice place to spend the day with your friends or family. Crab hunting at the beach is a popular activity so make sure to bring some nets! But leave your body boards at home because there are no waves due to it being a sheltered cove. Grills are there on site but get there early to get them. Go to the Ice House on the way home. It's a special treat. Trust me.
