Grand Brook in Grapevine has become a part of my family. Both my parents reside there with Dementia. It’s been a very difficult journey to find a place that can serve them both while addressing each of their individual difficulties and needs. I have experience with 6 different memory care facilities since 2020 and Grand Brook is the best! After staying a couple of nights with my parents and experiencing the Grand Brook staff at all hours of day and night, I can say with complete certainty the care workers are loving, caring, and skilled. This is the first place that I am confident in their care and with communicating to me of changes or needs while I am away. I don’t think I can praise them enough for how well they take care of my mom and dad.

Cliff notes: run from this facility, and if your loved one is here already move them ASAP and don’t look back.

I’ve attached photos of what our mother looked like before moving into this facility and then on moving out. Yes, her disease progressed while living here but it didn’t need to take the turn that it did. She moved in on 2 medications. She moved out on well over 15 medications. They kept her so sedated she sat slumped putting pressure on the right side of her body and face. Because of this she developed significant swelling to the right arm and hand which was present for over a week before the staff noticed and sent her to the ER. She was also allowed to sit for significant amounts of time on the hard floor and developed a pressure sore. The physician did not even look at it before treating her for diaper related rash. We had to prompt them to actually look at it and get wound care in because it was easily recognizable on the photo sent to us as a pressure ulcer. She was kept so sedated she was unable to feed herself and the staff did not have time to feed her properly. When my sister and aunt visited with her and asked for things like a sweater or her wheelchair they were met with huffs and a feeling of inconveniencing the staff. Her teeth appeared to never be brushed and her fingernails dirty. Other residents also appeared unkept and or dirty.
If all of this weren’t enough, they also (according to their nurse) do not have a set protocol for sending medication lists to the ER, if the nurse is not at the facility (nights, weekends and even some weekdays.) It took us a lot of persistence and over 30 minutes to finally get her med list for a telehealth visit for her arm/hand/face swelling. They refused to take her off 3 of her sedating anti-psychotic meds despite the fact we told them we did not consent to her having them due to the swelling on hand and arm. To make it all worse, they then decided to refuse to speak to mom’s medical power of attorney, which is illegal. To say our experience with them has been a nightmare would be an understatement. If you’re looking at previous glowing reviews and considering dismissing our experience as a one off, please know management has changed since those reviews.

If you care about your loved one, in my opinion you should thoroughly vet Grandbrook. I will always second guess my decision to move my mother into this facility. My mother passed away within three months of moving into Grandbrook. She did not like it at all. Shortly after moving in she refused to eat or drink anything. It was not the progression of the disease that caused her to stop eating. She was able to swallow and chew she just chose not to eat because she no longer wanted to live. She was not in the last stages of Alzheimer's. She still had moments of lucidity. In my opinion a big part of her issues stemmed from her dealings with the trained staff who antagonized and exacerbated already tense situations. My mom was combative but some of the staff only served to make the situations worse, as evidenced by the camera I had in her room. To keep them from antagonizing her each morning, I had my adult son stay with her in the morning so she could wake up with a loved one. This was after repeated requests to not have the staff wake her up, but to let her wake up naturally. I complained multiple times about the care she received (other residents entering her room during the night and going thru her stuff, not to be attended by male attendants because they scared her, etc) only to be told it would be to traumatic to move her. I visited her often, sometimes multiple times per day. During an early morning (1:00am) visit, I found the people meant to care for my mother sleeping in the laundry room. On another occasion I found the door to the medical (where the medicine was kept) room open. When I reported it to the director I was assured this would not happen again, and not to say anything more because the Nurse could loose her license. The nurse was actually one of the kinder individuals there and it was the night staff that left the door open so I took no further action. She also began falling, some of this instances were caught on tape and you can see in the video where staff members in my opinion contributed to the fall or care there after through lack of attention. My sisters and I did our due diligence in looking at multiple homes and felt this would be a good fit. If you find yourself having to put your loved one in a home, make sure to have a camera in their room. I would not recommend using the facility physician. I would use an outside physician. There were a few incredible people working there, just not enough of them. There were never enough people for the amount of residents. Visit a facility just after dinner while everyone is in the TV room. Notice the staff to resident ratio and if the residents are being taken care of. This review should have been written two years ago, but Covid happened and I'm just now able to look at the videos and pictures. I felt writing this review albeit late may help someone avoid some of the pain my mother went thru.

We live in the area and talked with Jennifer about my father-in-law needing to move to Memory Care. We weren't sure where we would move him because of family in two different states. Although we made the final decision to move him to the other state, I cannot say enough about Jennifer. She is absolutely the most wonderful, and caring provider I have talked to. She talked with me about his care and all that could be provided knowing we may not move him into her facility. It didn't matter she wanted the very best for him and it was perfectly clear that is all she truly cared about. She educated us in every aspect of his care no matter. I cannot say enough about her as she just put our minds at total ease. I just trust her so much. If Grand Brook is your choice I know Jennifer will be part of the main reasons you do choose it. She is an incredible caring person. Grand Brook would have been our choice if it had been our decision only. It's an amazing place even in the midst of the pandemic. No matter Grand Brook provides top quality care. I would highly recommend it to anyone facing this decision.

My Mother lived with me for many years. When I was no longer able to give her the care she needed, the Executive Director and Director of Healthcare actually came to my house to evaluate Mom. They built a rapport with her and helped make her transition seamless.

The care at Grand Brook is beyond my expectations. The food is fabulous and we are always welcome to come and eat with Mom or bring in Mom’s favorite meal. The facility is clean and has a nice layout. The staff is very friendly. They encourage residents to participate and never force anything upon them. Mom has so much more stimulation with the daily activities and exercise classes tailored just for her than I could have provided for her at home. She has actually made new friends. Grand Brook welcomes family’s to continue to be involved with our loved ones.

The Nursing care is excellent. They are always available for any concerns or questions I might have.

I highly recommend Grand Brook in Grapevine for anyone who is looking for a nurturing environment that truly cares for the residents and their families.
