Equipment is good however staff does not communicate well. Have received multiple counts of DIFFERENT information amongst staff members. Most staff members are kind. Manager has shown to be incredibly rude and cares more about the business rather than its members.
They will do anything they can to NOT let you transfer or cancel your membership. A gym is supposed to be CONVENIENT and comfortable and Gold’s is supposed to stand for their customers well this gym does NOT. This gym does not care about their customers and only wants money.
I have reached out to corporate Golds and have no problem getting a lawyer’s opinion on my contract and what this manager is saying.
Wish I would have read all of these poor reviews because there are A LOT of poor reviews prior to joining in July. I cannot believe the horrible customer service! I would not recommend this Golds. I have been to Other Golds that were great with great staff as well, not to mention you get way more for your money. Do not join this gym if you haven’t done so- you will certainly end up getting screwed over.

Unfortunate that I can’t review less stars. Also quite unfortunate that I would’ve continued to workout and utilize this gym if there had not been such poor handling of a personal training contract.
This gym clearly is in it for the money and not their retention for their customers. After getting the run around over the phone from multiple employees about billing and contracts, my husband and I went in to the location to speak with a general manager. He told us he could do absolutely nothing about contracts and when asking personally if I were to get pregnant and wanted to make the personal decision to cancel my contract he instead suggested, “there’s the option to freeze” and even “we have plenty of customers that get pregnant and remain personal trainees”. The fact that even a personal medical condition could not get you out of a contract from this location is the most ridiculous thing I’ve ever heard. I am not hesitating to involve my lawyer in this bogus “contract” scenario.
Don’t even get me started on their Taft Collection services, which by the way is a contracted collection agency employed by this Golds that will try and call you and scare you I to giving them your money.
Finally, as someone who has worked in multiple customer service and sales oriented positions I would never EVER treat my customers like this. And my husband who consistently refers his customers to businesses would NEVER refer anyone here. I know personally what good customer service and reviews can do for a business and I will never refer a friend or colleague to Gold’s.

P.S. Don’t bother responding to this review as I will not be swayed to rejoin this or ANY Gold’s.

*Most important info: came here at 225lbs in Sep. 2016 and now I'm 188lbs in Sep 2017. Gyms work If you put in the effort!!*

I've been going here for a year and a half and I've had nothing but good experiences. I highly suggest paying the highest upfront fee to get the lowest monthly payment. If you actually use your membership like I do, you'll save hundreds of dollars annually. Facility is generally clean and well maintained. Aesthetic upgrades have taken place here in the past year that make it an even more inviting location. The general manager and most of the staff are very nice and helpful. When I noticed the internet wasnt functionally properly Thomas the general manager made it a priority to be fixed and worked with his tech team and Comcast to ensure all club members have a consistent internet experience. I came from the VCU Cary street gym to this place when I graduated and I couldn't be happier with having Golds West End as my primary health club.

Very nice gym. Can get crowded at times but I dont go at peak times so I rarely see a crowded gym. Good bang for your buck.

Don't believe them unless they give it in writting. When I joined, I have been told, I do not have any contract but when I requested for termination, they said I have signed 2 yrs of contract and they even showed a signed contract (2 yrs) which does not match with mine. But it was my good luck that I only had 1 month left, so it did not hurt me that bad.

This review is in regards to the "Free Trial" and billing process. I am not a member of this gym. I took a tour of the gym with Summer and signed up for what I thought was a "7 day free trial." She signed me up for a full membership even though I made it clear that I was going to try out this gym for one workout and also try out the Willow Lawn gym later on that day. I ended up joining Willow Lawn. I called Summer the same day to cancel and I thought a verbal cancellation was fine. She told me to just bring in my keycard. That was all. I did that soon afterward (within 2 business days). I noticed that my credit card was immediately charged $29.99 during the day of the "free trial." A series of phone calls put through to this Gold's resulted in various answers about getting my credit card refunded (since I am not a member of this gym and only wanted a free trial). On my 3rd call, I spoke with Summer and she said that it may take up to 3 weeks for the refund to go through. Even though I didn't trust her, I waited. Today is August 2nd and the refund has not shown up. It has been 3 weeks since my credit card was charged for the monthly fee of $29.99. Wish me luck! I am going to call a 4th time after posting this review.

In short, please - DO NOT SIGN UP FOR THE FREE TRIAL. Do not give them your information. They will charge your credit card immediately and you will have to go through a lot of hassle to get a refund. Just ask for a quick tour if you can. If you already know that you want to join this gym, then fine. Just keep in mind that they have very aggressive billing practices.

I felt that the gym itself was lacking in space so I decided to join Willow Lawn.

At $30 a month the membership is higher than most, but you get great services in return, access to over 4 gyms all on the south side of Richmond, free access to numerous classes that take place every single day, a great staff that really cares about you, and a great atmosphere.

I don't know where the negative complaints come from.. I've been a regular here and the Midlothian location and this one has much more knowledgeable staff and all the equipment is kept in clean, working order. I'm no gym rat, just a normal guy that goes 3-5 days a week for 30 minutes at a time and I love this place

The Taft billing company is a giant piece of crap though. They would be a lot better off without them.

They say FREE VIP Pass on their site. When you go there, its not free, they will ask around 20 bucks to enter your name in their system for FREE VIP Pass. Once you there, they will kind of pressure you to take membership, else they make you feel you wasted their time. They say free day care, but its for high end membership. They say one free training. When you ask for that, they will describe what is the benefit of personal trainer and which one you want to go (no one free training, until you force them) Its kind of putting you in trap to get admit in their gym and get some personal trainer. When writing mail about this, no response.

I am a current loyal customer and have generally sung the praises of this gym, however that has quickly changed as of this morning. Several weeks ago I asked one of the staff members, who was working the front desk, about a guest pass for my boyfriend. My boyfriend is a 15yr marine, who was going to be taking a break from active duty to come visit me for a week, and wanted to see about using the gym while he was here. The girl at the front desk said to fill out the VIP pass information online and that should be fineI said ok, and did just that. This morning he went to the gym and was turned awayhe was told that bc he lived out of state that he couldn't use the pass, as the purpose of that pass is to sign up new members. Well, they are correcthe does live out of stateHE IS AN ACTIVE DUTY MARINE STATIONED IN CALIFORNIA!

I am irate at the fact that he was turned away after we followed the directions I was given. I will be be cancelling my membership, in addition to spreading the word about this location and their poor treatment of their customers and their loved ones.especially a member of the military!

This is simply unacceptable in my eyes.

I can't wait until the day when I can cancel my contract and not have to deal with this place anymore. The gym is fine and the staff is decently nice (some nicer than others) but oh my goodness when it comes to getting anything financially corrected, forget it. I got a new debit card when my old one expired and I went online and saw that it allowed me to change my payment info. So I changed it and then got an email a few days later that there was a problem processing the payment. I logged in online again and saw that my $9.99 didn't go through and I was charged a late fee of $20. I called and was told that if you update your info online, it doesn't save, you have to go in the location in person and update it or call. I provided the person on the phone with my new card, they charged the $9.99 and I was told the $20 would be waived. After about two weeks, the late fee was still sitting on my Golds Gym account. I called again and there were no mangers available so I had to call some third party company that handles that stuff and they were able to remove the fee but stressed this could only be done through them once. The next month, I get another email stating there was a problem with my payment again. I log in, and again the $9.99 and another (different) $20 late fee was on there. I called again and they still had my old card on file, turns out the last person didn't save it, they charged it the one time. I was told this new $20 would be removed but then I checked my bank account and I was charged the $9.99 AND the $20. I called AGAIN and was told that the manager would refund it. Weeks passed, still nothing. I call again and I am told that a manager will refund it as a one-time courtesy (yeah I know but where is it). It has been a month since then and still nothing so I just called again and was told I will be called back later. It is so frustrating to deal with them and I will not be renewing my contract and I'm sure cancelling my membership after this year is up will be an equivalent pain in my ass. Don't give the option to update payment info online if it doesn't actually update the payment info. Idiots. I'll probably be dead before I get my $20 back.
