We had a very enjoyable day on the water with Captain Jim. He was very knowledgeable about the environment. We saw alligators, kingfishers, tri-colored Heron and a dolphin circled the boat. Unfortunately, the manatees were hiding really well and we didn't see them. We cruised in channels among the mangrove trees in shallow water between 1.5 and 4 ft deep. We got out on Fakahatchee Island to observe up close some amazingly still standing remains of the work of the Calusa Indians. We collected shells on a secluded beach and had a refreshing snack of melon, oranges and homemade granola while drifting in the gulf. Though I'm usually nervous on boats, the Summer Breeze is a tri-hulled pontoon so it was a very smooth ride and I soon felt comfortable. I highly recommend this relaxing and informative adventure!
