Such a joy to discover this place. Interesting design and quiet atmosphere. Wife and I walked to the river, and kids were excited about the trains. Excellent way to spend a couple of hours.

Very unprofessional. I wanted to take my 80 year old mother and my aunt on an outing to lunch and to spend a nice fall day outdoors. After checking the Fernwood website several times for prices, directions, hours, cafe menu etc ; I took the day off of work and my aunt drove to Mishawaka In from Chicago The three of us then drove to Fernwood expecting to have a nice lunch out side and to walk for a bit. When we got there at about 1:35 on a Friday we were told with a smile that the cafe was closed "because there was a wedding being held". We went to a considerable trouble and expense to go to this placenever again. How about a little consideration by posting on your website that the cafe might not be open on any given day due to an event or a lack of staff. This way your unsuspecting visitors could know to call ahead to make sure they weren't going to have to go search through an unfamiliar area to find somewhere to eat. We were not refunded for the entry tickets or given passes to come back another day. To top it off the gardens were disappointing and lackluster. That might have been OK since our main reason to go was to have a nice lunch, but as I have said that was not to be. It honestly felt like bait and switch. A very unnecessary and unpleasant surprise.

Wonderful place to observe the change of seasons. Much to see---allow at least 2 to 3 hours when you go. Also has a nice cafe that serves lunch. Soups are always very good.

Beautiful and well maintained gardens. Love coming here to get away from the rush of life and just enjoy the beauty of God's creation. Kids love the train garden too!

Beautiful gardens and well-paced hiking trails for the entire family. Delicious cafe with friendly service. A great place to kill a beautiful day!!

It is pretty magical there. I loved seeing the hut made of trees and all the butterflies and pollinators. But some of the paths were small, or hard to navigate through. There were also large machinery that took away from the scene and experience. This time I only went on the paved paths so I don't know what the rest of Fernwood is like but it's worth returning and checking out the rest. I'd say it isn't as put together as I expected it to be especially by the pictures they have on their website but it's still a place worth checking out.

Very nice staff & gardens. Looked like good kid activities at the nature center. Had an excellent Salmon sandwich, other restaurant food looked delicious.

Exquisite wonderland of mother nature. Helpful staff and guiding paths. One glorious suprise after another as you meander the grounds. Restaurant food was delightful.
