The staff were wonderful and very accommodating. We had the best waitress in the place. My friends got a bit rowdy, but she handled it like a champ.
Great beer, great service, polka music - what else could you ask for?
A great place to gather and have fun with friends. Food is good but the restaurant needs a freshening. One room smells musty/moldy and should not be used.
I lived in Germany for 3 years and this place is the closest you are going to get to authentic. The beer is spot on the food is on point. The only problem i had was with their mustard, it's not that it's not good just not downtown Munchin mustard. I love simple German senf but they only have fancy mustard. So if you want bland German mustard like me just bring your own and the place has no faults.
Came here for the first time and within 30 minutes had finished my first boot. We had a pretty large group and our waitress Jen was super patient and accommodating. Her service was beyond excellent, music was lively and the beer was good. Next time I go, I plan to try more of the food and other types of beer. Overall, a great first experience.
Great German restaurant. Great beer and food. Live music after 8 PM. I went there many times 30 years ago. Tonight they proved that they still have IT.
Excellent food. Good prices. Variety of beers and wines. We love the "All you can eat" Fish Fry for $12. On Fridays, you can enjoy awesome music and great fish!
Probably the best beer selection in the area for sure used to always be the best German beer selection. Many events including German themed events such as Mayday and Oktoberfest. Good times, good people and the proprietor is a very generous man. You'll be in good hands down here!
This used to be one of my favorites, but the quality of the food has gone downhill in the last couple of years. That said, it's still a unique stop in Madison.
My waitress, Corine, made this a great visit. Here on business and staying at the Hotel Ruby Marie next door, the Essen Haus German restaurant, only a few steps away, has excellent food, service, and beer! Don't miss this place when you visit Madison! The Essen Haus, Corine, and the chef definitely won't disappoint!
The food is authentic German fare. We went to Germany for our honeymoon and going here upon returning for a meal was comparable to what we had in Germany. If you have a driver, tackling a boot can make for a fun evening.
It's so fun to come here when they have the band! Also, don't forget to turn your boot when it gets low enough or you'll get a splosh!! The beer selection is great, and they have more food options than your typical bar at such a great cost.
Essen Haus has a really fun vibe. The good is decent. It's a great place to drink with friends or to host an event. The polka bands that play here are pretty good
