Went on a school field trip a few weeks ago. While the staff was friendly and the kids got to take home some rocks, the place felt like a tourist trap. The kids were given false facts about things which sounded great but given that it was supposed to be an educational experience was rather upsetting. I'm sure there are better places out there if you happen to be on the hunt for this type of experience

Had a great time, found some decent minerals while mining. The staff here is always helpful and super friendly. This was my second trip here and I will definitely be back in the future.

Very cool place to visit! This place is great for children and adults! There are many gemstones and crystals and so many amazing rocks! I would definitely recommend this place and the staff were very friendly and helpful. I was glad to visit and I hope I can come back again soon! Very cool!

Not impressed. They could do much more with this place. They are sitting on a gold mine (figuratively). With over 100,000 visitors a year, the facilities could be a lot nicer and have more activities for the kids. If you are looking for an actual realistic experience of gem mining don't go here. It's probably good for kids under 10 but any kid older than that realizes they just sprinkle colored stones around on the ground and in the creek for them to pick up inside a corral. Again, this place has a lot of potential but needs reinvestment in facilities to realize the potential. The manager was grouchy and rude to the kids but also informative and knowledgeable about the stuff he spoke about. I recommend not visiting in cold weather as that will further detract from the experience.

Don't get their "special surprise bucket" it's a joke. Literally can get 100x the amount and better stuff at thermal city or lucky strike mines. Not only are they more expensive and get way less stuff than thermal city or lucky strike they also charge fees for "permits" to sit at a station but also a $3 bagging fee if u want to take it home instead. I have a double filtered diamond sluice box and went through everything just a bunch of grinded up rubble of emerald and junk. The "surprise" was a busted crappy geode.

So much fun! Climbing around the beautiful creek, found some small stones but mostly liked that for the experience, relaxing in nature w my feet in the cool water on a hot day, kids having fun digging. Sluicing was a blast! Wet and muddy fun! The folks at the lapidary were knowledgeable and friendly, we learned a lot! Also found they have a scouting program!

After reading the reviews I was reluctant in taking my family there. They were across the board but we went anyway. For our first time there we chose to do the creek only and see how that went. Got there about 9am and we had the creek to ourselves, which was great. We loved it. DO NOT go there thinking you will get super rich! The other reviews stating "oh we didn't find anything." We found lots of color. One super clear quartz crystal was almost 2 inches long. Our rocks spanned a range of colors and styles. We were really impressed with our finds. The kids were excited each time we found something. Picnic tables are scattered around and great for making a day out there without having to leave to find lunch.

One thing to keep in minddoing the creek can be as tough as work as you make it. You probably won't find the big one worth thousands. It can be tough work flipping rocks and digging but that's part of the fun that the buckets don't give you. We were told by the staff to dig deep. We dug a few holes knee deep and we steadily found color worth keeping. You won't find them laying on the top. You have to work for it. We found a spot and stayed there most of the day and did well. We filled 2 bags we were given. I suggest getting out there, sit in the cool water and dig. We didn't get muddy at all. It's all fine gravel. We are planning another day trip soon. I've been to Emerald Hollow Mine several times with school groups, and each time has been a great experience. My students consistently list this as their favorite field trip. Their staff are always so patient and understanding with my students, yet professional and able to keep their attention during the lessons. (I learn something new every time I go!) They offer several options for finding gems, and my all of my students have always found several beautiful specimens! They also have a very nice, shady area with several picnic tables and an open-air gift shop with reasonably-priced souvenirs. I always look forward to my trips to Emerald Hollow Mine.

Just a great way to spend the day. There are several ways to spend your day there. We bought 3 buckets of dirt and sifted through them looking for stones and gems. You can also go your own or go down to the river and pan for gems and precious stones. Then we took 2 of the best gems we found which happen to be my wife's and I birth stones to have them cut and polished into a beautiful seating for a very reasonable price.

My wife is all about this place because of her childhood experiences and my kids liked it but this seems an awful like gambling where the house controls the odds. You have to pay even if you aren't sluicing because ofinsurance. I guess its dangerous sitting on a bench with a pump throwing water down a chute while you make mud. Kids liked it though so I'll give it 3 instead of what I want to give it.

It was a fun family getaway with different activities for different levels of experience which was cool. It was a little on the expensive side though for what we got but it's kinda like gambling. You could find something pretty valuable, or you could find squat. I would go back. Pretty area, not too far from the triangle for a day adventure. Staff was nice.

Amazing stop on our journey home. We only did the buckets so my review is only partial.
Sluicing was still a lot of fun! We found tons of beautiful gems in the natural, surprise, child's, and the emerald/aquamarine buckets. Highly recommend it, we look forward to our next visit! Be prepared to get dirty!
