The food was good for a mid-priced restaurant. The portions were not as large as is common with many Mexican places. There is a nice variety of food - this is not just your standard Tex-Mex burrito plate place, so go there expecting to pay a bit for more interesting dishes. The ribs were well cooked with a lot of sweet adobo sauce, which could have used more spice, but was on a nice plate with salad, tamale, and small bowls of beans and squash.
We have started making it a tradition to go here every year we visit the area. Great atmosphere, unique, awesome food, great service.
The first thing I noticed about this place was the old picture behind my seat was a little depressing. And the nacho cheese was really drippy. The kid tray really made me think that the people there think kids get to be treated this way! But the stake I give a thumbs up!👍! -Wrenn T,the kid.(8years old by the way.)
The service was good and portions large but the quality of the food was only so so. I was surprised given the reputation but found it only average and very American style.
Very disappointed, been an El Charro patron for 40+ years. Chili rellenos were like scrambled eggs not a light fluffy batter. Carne Seca was a commercially processed meat product, similar to canned corned beef, and flavorless. This is the second time I've had this substance at El Charro. Sad to see their signature dish go downhill this far. Great service, need to blow the dust off the old cookbook.
Excellent food and nice environment. Waiters were helpful and there is rarely a wait.
Erica and Daniella were great at accommodating every service.
Definitely recommend.
Great atmosphere and huge portions.
Excellent customer service, Ana (waitress ) was 5 stars super friendly and good manners. The food is amazing we order Carne seca and another plates everything was delicious. Super cold beers. ..!!!
I'm writing this from the restaurant lobby, we were advised the wait was 10 minutes. Its been 35 minutes and every time I ask its the same 'your table is almost ready'. It seems the regulars here get much higher priority than the occasional diner. I know Where I'm not wanted.
Excellent food, excellent service. My only problem, not knowing what to order!! I need to come back. The cheesecrisp was great and the mole was fantastic! Happy my brother in law had vegan options too.
The best carne asada chimichanga. Period. Can't be beat. The only reasons this place gets a 4 instead of 5 are: weak beer selection and we almost always have at least a minor service issue.
My wife heard that El Charro was voted to have the best margaritas in Tucson, so that was the reason for our visit. It was crowded, but we were able to find a spot at the bar. And it was happy hour, so the timing was perfect. I had the chicken nachos (part of the happy hour men), which were excellent. Lots of stuff piled on top, and I didn't leave hungry.
The other people in my party all enjoyed what they ordered as well. Liked the decor and the bartender was friendly and always nearby.
The food was pretty decent, not fantastic, but the prices are a bit high considering the small portion size.
