The quality of this place has always been as inconsistent as it's name. Lately they are even screwing up orders of chips. Last two times I was there they put hardly any cheese on the chips. They used to be so good (back when they were called Santana's) but the last 4 times I've been they have screwed up my order and served inconsistent and poor quality food. Wish they'd get their act together.

Since MXN became Tony's the portions have shrunk, prices are higher, and my food has even come out cold. Strongly recommend skipping.

My fav!!! Try the potato tacos This place serves Mexican food fresh and delicious. They have a drive thru that's on the passenger side of the car(funny, but whatever works!) Try ANYTHING from this place. Not expensive, quick and very nice employees! Love TONYS!!!!

Friendly, fun and accomodating! Ask for what you want and they will usually do it pretty good.

This used to be another Mexican restaurant, it was really good then. I took my kids there for rolled potato tacos and a bean burrito, the beans were really salty and the burrito was small. The tacos, they were so hard we could not eat them. I took them back and they proceeded to make new ones, I had originally ordered I think it was 5, we tried to eat two, my son spit his out, I broke mine in half and bit it. They gave us 3 1/2 rolled tacos back. The guy said it was because we already ate two. I said we threw two away! I asked if they were freezer burnt? he said "no, its because they are the cheap tortillas, and they are super hard. I think he meant Chip? either way, we could not eat them and he would give us a refund or an exchange, It was really late and we were very tired from traveling all day I felt bad I spent the last of my money to feed my kids and we had to trash the food.. We wont be going back. :(

Food has improved since recent new ownership. Prices have gone up a bit but you should expect something a little more than your average taco shop fare because of this. Full salsa bar and even a few hot pots with different chiles and chile/onion mixture that is very tasty. Sit down seating with plenty of room and belly bar that runs the length of the restaurant. There is a lot of great high end restaurants close by and I think this place is situated in a good spot for those that are not looking for that 5 star gourmet sit down experience but still appreciate good Mexican food.

The beef adobada burrito with green sauce is AMAZING. Good enough that I am craving it and randomly writing this review 7 months later. I had to make multiple trips to this restaurant (the now closed Rosecrans location) while in San Diego. Another higher-rated Mexican restaurant in the area just wasn't as good.
I need an excuse to make another flight to SD and eat more of them.

I never wrote reviews. I never complain. But being disrespeteced and ignored somewhere I'm a regular is upsetting. Not only do they have some new girl behind the counter that rolls her eyes and is on her cell phone while with customers.but due to her lack of work ethic my order wasn't placed. I waited 20 mins while 4 other people were helped and served, after I placed my own order. When I let them know I wanted to cancel my order because I had to get back to work she rolled her eyes again while the cooks discussed the fact that my order was never placed. So sad to see this place go down the drain with their hiring choices.

Sweet spot for awesome Mexican food! The prices are very reasonable as well, so there's no gripes about this place. Right off Washington, so it's pretty much close to everything in Hillcrest. Check it out!
