My wife and I went there a couple of years ago for her 50th birthday. The one bad review is absolutely unwarranted. The place is great. It's rustic but very clean. The view is fantastic with many ships sailing by all day and night. The shore is not a sandy beach it is red volcanic rock and nowhere do I see it advertised as anything else. I personally wouldn't let my kids play there by themselves as it is steep in places. The cabin we stayed in was very clean and comfortable. When we went we had no internet or phone signal at all so keep that in mind. The town has very little to offer as far as groceries and gas so be prepared. Over all the place is great and don't let one bad review rob you of a great place to have great time.

Exceeds expectations! Getting away from it all on Lake Superior was our summer vacation and we were lucky to book at Eagle Lodge as for the 1st time ever we saw THE NORTHERN LIGHTS! If you are in the area to enjoy nature this is the location as INCREDIBLE NIGHT TIME OF AURORA BORIALIS and billions of stars( too many shooting too little time to make a wish in between).
If, you are an uptight urban/suburban type with a high maintenance process there are more modern options away from the lake so you can play on your phone, but the trade off is well worth the price, to witness the natural wonders of universe.
Owners very nice and both acomplished artists. Will return next year.

We really enjoyed our stay in cabin 10! The weather was perfect, and the lake view was spectacular. We saw several ships passing by each day we were there. The owners are wonderful people and really take great care of the place. The only drawbacks were the noisy, uncomfortable bed, and the fact that there were no curtains in the kitchen windows, so anyone walking by could look right in. Not sure why that was. Regardless, I hope we'll be able to stay again.

I am writing to inform you that we were really unsatisfied with our stay, the cabin #4 was decent, defiantly 70 retro style. But what we were told, and seen of the area it was not what was specified and the cabin was no wear worth $150+ a night!!
We arrived shortly after 5pm, upon checking in I was informed wear our cabin was and my family and I went to unload our things. First off the area is not secluded, our cabin was right on the main highway, the cabins were not as far apart as stated, I could walk out the front door and in about 10 steps I could be at the next cabins door, oh and they had a barking dog also. All the cabins were scrunched together, you could even see into the other cabins. NONE I mean none were on the lake shore they cabins were on a cliff.
We paid more for a bigger cabin and could barely see the lake. We then decided to walk down to the small lake pool that was described to be a fun place for children to play, and when we walked down the way as we climbed through rugged terrain down huge cliffs to a small opening into the lake, the so called kiddie pool area was a very dangerous area, rugged cliffs and stones everywhere. Definitely not a safe place for children to be, and hurt your feet.
Upon looking at the website and actually looking around we noticed that many things were not as described. I just looked at some new posts and I am not the only customer that states things were not their that was stated.
I even called and spoke with Liz before our trip about it being kid friendly, and again this was not true. I am really disappointed that this vacation was not what it was presented to be, I am upset I drove 9 1/2 hours to spend almost $150+ a night for a place I wouldn't pay to stay at if I knew what it really looked like. (We would have been better off pulling off on state land and parking and putting up a tent.)
So disappointed, we left as fast as we pulled in, and left the keys on the table as described. We drove all night to get home by 5am, needless to say, we are exhausted and my children are exhausted and upset that our 1st family vacation was ruined. So tomorrow we will make another 400 mile trip to finish our vacation, elsewhere.
I do believe this place was once nice, but the owners seem to like to pocket the money received then to put it into the property, seems that they maintain only minimal to keep renting out the cabins what a shame. The area is beautiful, wish it would of looked as good as most places to rent that cost $150+ a night. Defiantly a ripe off, waste of time and money for me and my family. I did take photo's, and I am contacting my bank for a full refund!!!

Wonderful, cozy cabin with a great view of the lake. Friendly owners, quite and secluded. Cabin was so cute and had a great den with a fireplace. Highly recommended.
