Food was tasty and atmosphere was nice. Portions are small but hearty. Enjoyed the live Jazz musician. The bartender, Mr. B was friendly and provided great customer service. The hostess which was a woman who appeared to be training another gentleman was awful. This was on Sunday morning for brunch. She appeared fluster, no customer service, inattentive, and unable to properly manage crowds. She was not able to accommodate us on a table so we eventually sat ourselves by the bar. Furthermore, the entire time we were at the restaurant, tables were open and not being utilize but time after time she told us there were no tables. Luckily, the bartender was attentive and had a good experience because of him and the live music. The hostess needs training herself on how to properly treat customers, work with large crowds, proper work etiquette, and be friendly. I gave it a 3 stars because of the terrible experience with the hostess.

Amazing food and live jazz! Good cocktails, too. A must try for anyone visiting Detroit. The ambiance is quite nice and unique. It’s like stepping back into a 1920s speakeasy. Highly recommended this place even if it’s only for drinks.

The live jazz was great. The food was too dressy and didn't taste all that well. Need to introduce American cuisine, soul food, and more vegetarian options. Instead and trying to be so fancy add some flavor and just serve good tasting food its does not have to be fancy; if it tastes good I'd definitely come back. Its way over priced. Get a cook that can cook instead of cooking pretty with no taste and add bread sticks to the tables while patrons wait for meals or a complimentary side salad with every meal. I would pay for good that's how to keep my business The food here is just way to fancy and nasty for no reason. Change that menu! Yuck!

Went here for their Sunday brunch special with some friends. We had a great time. The atmosphere upon entering is a slick jazz club feel. There was live music and the food was great. It is more on the pricy side, with the average plate for brunch at $16. It was worth it for the experience in my opinion. If you plan to go make a reservation.

Oh man I love this place. Even if you don't like jazz you should at least stop in for a cocktail and checkout the old-school decor. The acoustics in this place are stellar. No matter where you sit in the club, even if you can't see the stage, sounds phenomenal.

I booked a large group dinner to celebrate my birthday at Cliff Bell's, and I wholeheartedly regret doing so. The evening started out well; we enjoyed the historic setting and the ambiance (which is why I chose it in the first place). Our servers were friendly enough and our food was decent. But it all went downhill once we asked for the check. Five minutes after leaving it on the table, one of the servers came by to tell us she forgot to add a $10/person cover charge. That was shocking, to say the least, since half of our party had already paid upon entry. We immediately asked to speak to the manager, who came over and said he'd make an exception for us. While that was nice of him, it didn't improve the situation. We ended up waiting over ONE HOUR to pay the check (granted, we had provided several credit cards but I don't see how charging them could take over 15 minutes). The whole debacle nearly ruined my birthday, and my friends left dinner with a bad taste in their mouths. I feel awful for inconveniencing them, especially those who went through the trouble to make the drive to Detroit, arrange babysitters, etc. All of that said, I do not recommend Cliff Bell's — especially for large parties. There are far better, more professional establishments in Detroit that would certainly respect and appreciate your business more.

I hate to only give this place a three star rating because it's an institution in Detroit but I have to be honest. The food is over priced and not worth what they charge. We ordered the risotto and it was under cooked, we sent it back and then it came out pasty. It is a really nice place and if the food was better or more appropriately priced I would give them a five star rating.

First off, Cliff Bell's is gorgeous.
The building housing Bell's combination jazz club, bar, and restaurant was designed by "Architect of Detroit" Albert Kahn, and the club itself was designed by noted architect Charles Agree. Opening in 1935, and fully restored in 2005, every inch of the interior is glowing mahogany hardwood, leather, and brass. Wall-sized wood panel murals adorn one wall, leading towards a beautiful art deco sunburst behind the stage, and all under an amazing curved wood ceiling. Truly one of the saved gems of Detroit architecture.
Hear jazz most nights and enjoy one of the fabulous cocktails. Reservations are a good idea if you don't want to wait. The vibe is upscale but still casual, and it's the kind of place you can wear a sport coat or a t-shirt to, but why not look good in a place as good looking as this?response / report this review -

Nice place in general. My son plays for a few of the Youth Jazz groups and it's always a hassle. If there is a program here and you still want to be open to the public the program people should get priority. Don't tell me I have to buy dinner in order to sit at a table and then be shuffled around to accommodate someone that had no idea of the program. The waitstaff is slow but friendly and the Hostess w/ the dreads is just rude!. I only come because of the programs nothing else nor will I ever. *** So update to this review I went to cliff bells on 4/23/17 for my son's high school jazz band performance. Came in told the Hostess how many seats I needed and was promptly seated with no hassle or attitude (different person this time) and our server James was absolutely wonderful!! Way better experience than the last time.

I went here to watch my friend and his band perform (they sounded beautiful, by the way). Servive was wonderful, the food was divine, and the stage had a lovely set up.
The drink section was extensive (although I didn't drink), so if you like to drink, this is a good place to sit, listen to music, and have one.
Wonderful place for a date!

Wow. Fantastic food. Very flavorful without being overseasoned. Both the chicken and pork tenderloin was so moist it practically melts in your mouth. Desserts were just a good. Cool atmosphere with the decor and live music. Did I mention it's a jazz lounge that captivated all age patrons?
