LOVED THIS ZOO! The giraffe feeding experience was really cool and we love that it is on the side of the mountain. That gives a very unique feel to the zoo. Makes it feel like to grizzlies and moose are in their natural habitats, not in enclosures. The paths are set up so you can see the animals from different angles anda wide variety of animals as well. Just a great zoo! Gluten free, dairy free and alcoholic options at most locations here.
Since its on the mountain, dress warm!

Cheyenne Mountain Zoo is one of the best zoos I've visited - not because of the number of animal types, but because of how close up you are able to get to the animals. I'd never fed or touched a giraffe before, so being able to feed all the giraffes was a new and exciting experience. You can also feed the black rhino and African elephants. I walked amongst wallabies and penguins - another first. Most of the animals have realistic outdoor habitats with exceptional vantage points for zoo visitors. Really nice zoo!

Always a great experience - whether you try to see it all, or you just choose to focus on one exhibit/region. Their "Boo at the Zoo" events, along with "Electric Safari" and adult date nights give some variety for zoo visitors.

Surprisingly, this zoo is not supported by taxpayer money, but through donations and business profits from the day-to-day operation. I'm afraid the recent attempts to upgrade facilities reflect the careful cost considerations, and sometimes result in smaller scale projects than originally hoped.

For example, the new penguin and hippopotamus display is open and it is not what I expected. We are so happy for their return, but the penguins are in such a small area with a smaller view that the exhibit has built in markers outside the building and down the walk for the inevitable lines to get in to the building to see them. I can appreciate that we want to see them, but they may not wish to be seen, but there is nothing advising people to that hiding places are intentional so they will leave them alone and move on either.

If you plan to visit, wear good shoes or buy a trolley pass, bring water, sunscreen and a jacket, and make a day of it. The Sky Ride costs extra, but it's an excellent way to relax and see the zoo and city from the air. For animal safety: no straws allowed, no outside food allowed.

When you visit be kind to the creatures the zoo is working to help protect and conserve. And make sure others are too - it's never too early for children to learn kindness and respect! 😊

We visited this amazing zoo this weekend it was the best zoo experience we’ve ever had. All the employees were great, but especially Destiny & Josh were so kind and friendly and seriously made our day! The kiddos loved the nature play and all the exhibits but feeding the giraffes was the best! They had a ton of new baby animals and we got to see them all. Our special weekend here was made into a life long memory. TLDR; Baby animals, beautiful views and great staff make this an awesome place!

Such an amazing zoo! You can see almost every single animal up close and its in a breathtakingly beautiful location. Absolutely gorgeous. The animal enclosures are all spacious and the animals are well taken care of.

Single favorite part: feeding the giraffes. I made friends with a huge giraffe today and it was amazing. Do not miss!

Went to the Electric Safari. We took my 2 and half old son and 4 month old daughter to see Santa. Santa was sitting in his chair when we approachedMy son was nervous to approach. Santa looked at him and said, "Would you like me to get at your level?" Santa sat on the floor and welcomed my son to come talk to him. My son approached Santa and felt more comfortable and told Santa he wanted for Christmas. It made me happy and was awesome to see Santa get at the level of my son so he would feel comfortable. Best Santa experience. Thank you Cheyenne Mountain Zoo for a wonderful night!

I'm usually not a supporter of zoos, but this is one that I can stand by. As this place is kind to their animals and offers a wealth of knowledge and experience for kids. As member, the membership pays for itself after one or two visits. It's great to have during Boo at the Zoo and Christmas, and birthdays can be fun and educational. By a drink at the main restaurant--keep the plastic cup and get free refills at any drink spots and anytime you come it!

Incredible zoo. Giraffe feeding is a must. Bear exhibit requires elevator or stairs but worth it. Lots of uphill walking. Watch for cars driving through park up to the Will Rogers castle. Parking usually good unless holiday. Mountain lion exhibit really neat and super close view. Look into a membership it might save you money even if you go just twice a year.

I haven’t been back here since I was a kid and it is a completely different zoo! The animal exhibits were amazing and nothing like I remember. The animal habitats were all huge and provided excellent condition for the animals and viewing for the public. This is definitely a great place to bring small kids and is an excellent family excursion. Well worth the trip for any locals as well as tourists to the area. 👍

Feeding the giraffes is the top attraction here for me but I think that this zoo does an amazing job of actually taking care of its animals not just putting them on display. They're adding more exhibits which is nice and they already have a great range. The food outlets are pretty high quality and the views are unlike any others you'll get in a zoo!

I love this zoo! It makes me so happy that you can get right up next to most of the animals. It so wonderful to be able to feed the giraffes! I have never seen conditions that I would consider questionable and most of the animals seem pretty happy. I've seen so many cute moments here a mom and baby orangatan kissing and playing. Lions calling back and forth to each other and a tiger playing with a ball in his river was adorable and thrilling. I will definitely be back and suggest you go as well :)

Such a cool zoo! My family has been visiting here for years and we've always had an awesome experience. The zoo has really been renovating a lot recently, making it that much better (at the cost of higher entry fees, unfortunately). They're going to redo the penguin/hippo exhibit, which has been much needed. The restaurant is really good, too; they've never failed to serve awesome food at a reasonable price (pizza, wraps, burgers, other unique foods like stuffed peppers, etc.). It has gluten free buns if you're wondering. This zoo is awesome! Definitely check it out!

Great little zoo! Wife and I had a great day! Took us about 4 hours to walk the whole park (no kids). You get closer to the animals than I've ever been and you can tell the animals are well taken care of. Great family trip or afternoon with the hubby. Lots of trees for shadeit is on a mountain side so expect to walk up and down hill. You can ride a golf cart for a couple of dollars. A few exhibits were under construction.

I've been to this zoo many times over the years and it's always a great time. Getting to touch giraffes never gets old. The zoo is high altitude so if you're not used to it be prepared to take it slow. One of the best secondary things about this zoo is the view of the city, it's amazing! Another of my favorite things about this zoo is how close you can get to so many animals. Their selection of animals is limited, but still a lot, and most importantly you can tell that they are well cared for. You can easily spend all day here, especially if you have kids, as there many play areas for them. The only negative thing is that the food is outrageously priced, but you can pack a lunch, or just chock it up in the name of off time. Still, I highly recommend this zoo experience!

This a pretty nice zoo with a few really exceptional exhibits. The giraffe exhibit is outstanding. They have a lot of giraffes and you can buy lettuce to feed them by hand. They come up close and grab the lettuce with their purple tongues. My children really enjoyed that. Their elephant run is large and you can also go in and see where they take care of the elephants. I saw an elephant showering, lay on its side and then get up from its knees.

They also had wallaby exhibit where they just leap and bound around a pretty large enclosed area. They're like smaller kangaroos. In that area is a bird exhibit where you can buy sticks with seeds on them to feed the birds. Sometimes they'll fly right on to your shoulder to feed. The kids enjoyed feeding the birds as well.

The zoo is on a mountain so the walking is a little more strenuous because of the gain as your work up the zoo. The drive up is beautiful as well. If you're in the area it's worth checking out. You great views of the city as well.
