It’s back to the old days. Definitely worth the trip.
After down years, new management has restored it's conditions in fine fashion
The new greens are in good shape. They are really a great addition to this layout. Course is really worth playing!
I would love to give this course 5 stars, but its just not ready yet Not having a range really brings me to want to throw a 3-3.5 stars right now. However knowing where this course was in the last 2 years They deserve a bump to a 4 -4.5 for the awesome work new management has done with the course !
Pros :
Greens - Absolutely needed Bermuda , the newly opened bermuda greens still have signs of needing some sand today and were a TOUCH long my liking, BUT 100% playable
Fairways - exceptional
Tee boxes - Few blemishes here and there, but nothing to 'complain about'
Layout - It is called the Challenge for a reason , there are some tough approach and drives here . GREAT layout overall though!
Staff - Super friendly !!!!
Cons :
Driving range - NONE :( (previous reviews state a new one is coming not sure how true that is)
Greens - Few 'quirky' humps and pin placements that one could argue unfair
Bunkers - THICK sand (almost like beach or heavy fill dirt) , consistency of feel and amount of sand in the bunkers varies (again i do believe there are plans to re-do the bunkers here soon
Overall this course is 100% springing back to life, worth the 45 minute drive from RTP GO PLAY HERE , Support the course so they can continue to make it even better !!!!!!
After spending the summer on maintenance and new greens, the Challenge is in extraordinary shape for a daily fee course in early September 2017.
Played 18 last weekend on 8/20 and it was a real treat with the new champion Bermuda greens. The course is in the best shape I have ever seen it and I couldn't find any reason to complain. I will be back
Awesome course with a lot of turtles!
Good course but the greens are not currently in good shape. I believe they will redo greens May 2017.
Played The Challenge 2-3 months ago and thoroughly enjoyed it - it lived up to its name. We just played it again yesterday, however - and the course is a DISASTER. Bunkers are completely unplayable, greens are half grass, half sand, fairway grass height is approximately the same as the rough - even the water dispensers weren't filled. Even at a reduced rate, it's not worth playing until they do some MAJOR surgery on the course.
Good course. A little pricey but worth it
The tee boxes were not in the greatest conditions. There were 10-20 hornets making nests in the greens on most of the holes. Makes you feel a little uneasy standing over a putt when you have these jokers in your ear and flying at you.
