The park is simply beautiful. So many great hiking and sightseeing opportunities for any skill level. The golf course looked extremely well maintained as did all of the other amenities in the park. Though I did not stay in the lodge, friends have told me it is really nice. So many trails going through the open meadows and following the Blackwater River. You owe it to yourself to go!

The resort was nice but we were disappointed by the service. We paid 300 Canadian a night and we had to bring in our towels everyday to the front desk. There were 7 of us. We had to pick up garbage bags daily and dish towels. The kitchen had below average cookware. The pans were terrible to cook with, except one. There was one sharp knife and few extras such as tongs, extra spatulas and some quality cutting knives. We also had no washer and dryer in the cottage, we had to pay for it at the hotel and we had a fireplace but we had to pay for a bundle of wood. The place was beautiful, the deer were plentiful, but the Blackwater falls resort cottage had a gas fireplace, washer and dryer but the kitchen cookware was the same.

Nice place to spend your weekend, or just an afternoon during your free time. It has a beautiful views, good food. And during winter, why not to go ice-skating in the outside hall. You can rent ice skates and enjoy yourself. If you get cold you can just come inside and warm up next to the fire pit.

Fantastic facility! Recently remodeled. Restaurants include a cafe for quick sandwiches or coffee, a full service pub with a fireplace near the ski slopes, and a sit-down restaurant in the main lodge. Best ski slopes around for beginner's level. Also has an ice-skating rink, plenty of trails for hiking, biking, picnicking, and bird-watching during the warmer seasons. Cabins are pet-friendly for Fido. Rates are a little steep, but worth the price.

Very friendly staff. Nice clean rooms and bathrooms. It was a quiet place. Nice view. Close to ski area (it was very important since we went there for skiing). They need to update pool / jacuzzi / saunas / shower / gym area with nice towel service. Lack of restaurants choices on the property. If you are still sleeping or put "don't disturb" hang by the door when housekeepers comes, they won't clean your room unless you personally ask at the front desk later. They have a lot of unused conference rooms / spaces. It will be nice to have some complementary coffee or / and cookies at the lobby. Overall we had a very nice stay for a state operated facility. Highly recommended if you are looking for relaxing and nice family get away.

From the amazing wetlands, the first rate cross-country, and down hill skiing, spectacular vistas this one of favorite locations. This does not even take into account the legendary trout fishing and the amazing wild Caving available to the avid outdoors- person.

It's a great lodge - the tax and fees seem non-stop however. There is now a $9 per night "resort fee" and another $0.54 tax on that fee - fees and taxes are $27+ per night.

It was amazing! It was secluded and peaceful. The veiws were amazing. There were so many things to do in our cabin including a 4d theater and a habachi grill. I would definitely say I will going back again asap. It was a great family vacation.

We stayed at the campground. For $30 a night for full hookup that's not bad at all. Nice sites most being pull thru. They have a playground and when we were there they had a rock climbing wall. Only complaint was there is a fenced in pond and occasionally there is a loud pump that would cycle on and off. But you can see snapping turtles and large frogs from the fence. We had a great time here and would stay again!

We had connecting rooms for our stay, and it was very convenient! The beds were comfortable and the rooms were clean. The toiletries from bath and body were very nice. We enjoyed hanging out at the outdoor fire pit. The only issue we had was getting lost between the main building and north tower. The wifi was very reliable except at the indoor pool/hot tub.

A wonderful getaway. Had a great day exploring Blackwater Canyon and returned here for a round of cocktails and light supper in Laurel Lounge. Quiet, clean room with a wonderful staff. Beautiful vistas. A special place.

The receptionist that checked us in was very unpleasant and not helpful at all. When we tried to get information on what different activities they have she did not even bother to answer. Rooms are good with decent beds. The staff (young woman) at the outdoor pool was very service minded and explained how everything works regarding activities at the hotel. The food in the restaurant was not much to cheer over and the salad buffet was blend.

Canaan Valley is located in one of the most beautiful areas of West Virginia. I spent the day there for a social event, and I couldn't have asked for a better venue. The resort puts nature's glory on display.

I've been through the Valley many times, but this time my father and I stopped in at the Resort. Reasonably priced, at least in May, it was a very nice facility, though easy to get lost in. The meals were good, and the balcony off the room was a great place to sip wine and watch the world go by, including a military fly-by. The place was very quiet otherwise; the rooms in the second tower were very nice, beds comfortable, and if you visit Tucker County, this is a good stop.
I was not there during ski season, which I imagine would be a vastly different experience.response / report this review
