We have stopped here many times over the years. Bluff is a well known restaurant that serves primarily catfish, shrimp and chicken that are fryed to perfection. The staff is friendly and service is efficient. Being near Maquoketa Caves Caves State Park, there location is a little out of the way but worth the trip. Bluff has a small picturesque lake and gift shop. Note that because of it's popularity Bluff Lake can be very busy at times so plan accordingly. Currently there is construction in the Park that will close access through the Park. You will need to use the other access from the Caves Road.

This is a rural Iowa gem. The food is served family style and everything is great. Check the website because the menu varies. Worth the drive.

All you can eat chicken and shrimp on Sunday. All you can eat catfish on Friday and all you can eat haddock on Saturday. These are served homestyle. They also have a full menu with selections for kids. Never had a bad meal here.

Catfish on Friday, Haddock on Saturday. The wait can be long, but worth the wait! While you wait, there are great views outside, and lots of friendly cats to hang out with.

We went on a Sunday afternoon and had good service and didn't have a wait to get seated. The food was good and the scenery was amazing.

Worst service in a restaurant I've ever experienced. Waited over two hours for a table before leaving. After one hour we we're told there were four groups ahead of us. We watched six groups get seated in the next hour when we asked again we we're told the same four groups were still ahead of us. They also have people tailgating all over the parking area, which is not supposed to be allowed. We had to chase a bunch of drunks off our vehicle and couldn't leave until they cleared all the beer bottles from around us.

Been coming here since the early 80s
tonight will be our last visit.
Waited 2 hrs went to hand in our pager and leave and they sat us immediately.
Our waitress was pointed away from our table to wait on 2 other tables after 1st stopping at our table. Service was poor.
I realize they will not miss our business but I have spent my last $$$ at Bluff Lake

Had the all you can eat chicken, shrimp and coleslaw as a late lunch after a morning at the caves. All was excellent. Be sure to use Google Maps to find this place.

We love the Friday night catfish special. They have the best cole slaw ever and food is served family style. They don't take reservations, so sadly you just have to give them your name and wait.

Bluff Lake is a family favourite. We go here often and invite as many people to go with us as we can. They have a large indoor and outdoor waiting area and bar. Arrive early or you will have to wait for at least an hour. The special on Saturday is fried haddock and Friday is Chicken and catfish. All the food is good and the price is right. It is a Northeast Iowa institution.

Always a great place to eat! All you can eat of catfish, chicken, etc, depending on the night you go. Prime rib is wonderful according to my husband! The pond is pretty cool with a waterfall and you can feed the fish. It's kind of hard to find down a dead-end gravel road but worth the drive! Go early or very late because it gets super busy!!

Love this place, it's growing so fast. Lots of options but I always go for unlimited haddock, potato wedges and slaw on saturdays. It's to die for!! Forever a repeat

The food is awesome. The wait can be horrendous. You need to get there before 6 or good luck. There needs to be extra wait staff, the ones they have there are good but they can only move so fast.

I had been here before, long ago, so we decided to go back to this quaint place in NE Iowa. Sunday afternoon, all you can eat shrimp and chicken. Well, they brought plenty of shrimp, but 4 pieces of the smallest chicken I've ever seen, for the four of us. The fries were cold. Service was mediocre, I had to carry the plate to the server to ask for more chicken. Quaint setting, pretty country, below average food. Will not return.
