This was the only YMCA in the area when i moved to the panhandle. The front desk staff never understood the away membership cards and that it can be used at any YMCA. The place is so small. The gym is used as a daycare. The swimming pool is outside What happens in the winter? No indoor pools for lessons, swim team or lane swimming. The classes offered are interesting but the choreography is off.
This rating is for the VPK Program. Beware if your child has any extra needs. We had to pull our child out because the teacher would not work with us and our sons therapist for what was best for him. She did not care about what the therapist said and also made me feel like a lousy parent on more then one occasion. The assistant was Amazing tho. Our son loved her and the friends he had made. It is crushing us having to move him.
After school program is chaotic and staff is rude to kids. I've never seen the floor without food, toys, or crayons scattered everywhere. Kids are allowed to bully each other and run all over the place. My kids were crying after the first day when I picked them up. We were also told they would have 20 minutes of homework time and be able to go the pool. never happens. Also, when I take my kids to the pool after I pick them some lifeguards are rude when my kids ask them to open the slide. After my daughter asked they said they will in a second. Then my son asked and the lifeguard said "pick a number 1-5" my son said "3" then he lifeguard said "1, 2" and then just laughed. Very disappointed! I'm diligently searching for other options so my kids will not pick up any of these behaviors they are exposed to!
We are new to the area, signed my son up for swimming lessons for 6pm class, we finished up the first week and will the 2nd week but will probably not be back. Everyday one guards would say a different rules to at least one of the kids before class would start, I think it would be a good thing to hand out a rules list with registration. That way kids and parents both would know the rules and not learn them piecemeal or one at a time upsetting the kids every day. Every child that was either pulled out of the water or taken aside ending up crying. One time even my son. He was here for the first 4 days a little before time and him and a couple of friends would play a little while in the kids end of the pool with no problems, this Monday my son was told he wasn't supposed to be in the water before class and that he had to get a wristband on, no wristband was required or put in the first week. Not a good way to treat little kids. Just a simple handout at registration would stop this, thanks.
Positive energy, that's all I care about. I bring my own positive energy as well. Super friendly staff. It feels good when I enter and even better when I live. Thank you to ALL.
I am in town on vacation and regular my local Y 4+ times a week, so it made sense to find a YMCA while on vacation to keep in shape (and work off the amazing food I am eating) while here in Navarre. The facility is small, but nice. Front desk was helpful and friendly. The equipment was nice and well maintained. I took Spin on two different occasions and was recognized as being "new" and welcomed in both. I have to say though that the teachers had very different teaching styles. The Tuesday 7 am class was not my favorite. However, Thursday at 11 was a great class! I REALLY liked Rachel's energy, contagious smile, singing in class and just overall fun mood. She made the 50 minutes go by like no time at all and I worked up a great sweat while my teenagers used the treadmill and my husband lifted. Overall nice Y!
The equipment is well maintained and the staff is very friendly. They offer discounts for military too. The best thing about it is that I can drop the kids off for sports at the NYSA and hop across the street for some gym time while they are at practice.
Love Hannah & Ms Connie.summer program is AWESOME..
I love this gym. Love taking my kids to the pool. They have updated the equipment and the classes are great.
The gym is small so it's always crowded. The equipment is old and smells very bad. They also need to improve the classes.
The price is 3 time more than other gym.
The equipment are old and nasty They have ribs and tear over them. The work out Area smells nasty because it is not sanitize . This place is more of a hazard then a family place .
I do not recommend this place to anybody.
Very disappointed in this Y. Over the years have made multiple suggestions for improvements, but NOTHING has changed. They do a great job of replying just to be nice, but never do anything.
Very disappointed today when drove all the way to use the pool only to find out a lifeguard was sick so the pool was closed for the whole day. Only sign was posted on entry to the pool. No note at front door, on website, or notice sent through email. There are usually 3 lifeguards. Don't know why they need 3 lifeguards. Could have gone with 2 since crowd is much smaller after Labor Day.
If there is a cloud somewhere in the sky you are taking your chances on the pool being open. They'll close it down immediately if thunder is heard in the far off distance (although it is bright and sunny). Then you wait and wait. Might as well just pack up and leave.
Also, there is a 10 minute break every hour where everyone must be out of the pool. Is this really necessary?
I could go on and on Lots of rules. Maybe good for kids and families, but not if you are an adult focused on getting a good workout.
