This is easily one of the best views of Big Bear Lake. Lots of lizards and blue tailed skinks visit you while you make your way up from the Cougar Crest trail head. The hike is pretty easy until you get to the actual Bertha Peak trail. You can expect a fairly steep incline so make sure to wear decent shoes. My tennis shoes didn't grip well on the way back down. It takes anywhere from 3 to 4 hours from the bottom to the top and back. We like to stop at the top of Cougar Crest and eat lunch then head to the top. Try to get started before 10am to avoid too much heat.
Great hike from the parking lot. Takes less than 2 hours and it's about a 1300 foot climb.
Amazing views of Big Bear Lake, Holcomb Valley and the desert. The final push up is intense but we'll worth it.
