I stopped spending money here on vitamins and supplements awhile ago. The reason being because I felt stalked by the employees who were obviously watching me to see if I was stealing. I'd come in with a small purse, where I'm I going to put the bottles? I'd leave spending around a $100, come back a few months later, and the same employees would still follow me in every aisle always looking away real fast when I'd see them starring at me. I understand not wanting to lose money from theft, but they need to figure out a less obvious way of watching people. Very insulting, especially doing this to someone who spends hard working money at the store and doesn't steal.
**UPDATE FOLLOWING ORIGINAL POST**
I'm so disappointed! I have spent alot of money here on tumbled stones. I have also sent alot of people there for tumbled stones, who also have spend a large amount of money on them. The last few visits I've had, I've noticed the energy in the store was super negative. There has been a few experiences with one specific employee that has the absolute worst customer service skills I've ever seen. She complains about everything, is extremely rude, and nasty. Every time I go in and see she's working, I know it isn't going to be a great trip.
The tumbled stones are priced based on weight and they don't have a mini scale or anything for customers to weigh stones before purchasing them. The last 2 trips, I have asked whoever was working if they could weight the stones for me that I wanted and if one was too expensive, if I could change my mind. I was told both times it was fine because they weren't that busy. However, today I went in and started looking at stones. I had an employee approach me and rudely say, "umm, excuse me. Last time you were here, you made that gentleman weight all your stones and then decided to not buy half of them. Can you just not do that anymore since it's a big waste of time!". I was shocked. I explained to her that the absolute only reason I have done that is to see how much they will cost since there's no way I can see before I get up there. She replied by saying "oh" and walked away.
Between all of the negative experiences, I will not be giving Bassetts any more of my business. The negative officially outweighs the positive. I will be taking my business to World of Rocks and Harmony in Life from now on and suggest others do the same.
**UPDATE**
I went to the store to pick up a $20 gift certificate as an apology for my experience and also, I'm assuming, as an attempt to keep my business. I was entirely prepared to either edit or delete my negative review if my experience was better than the one explained above, but when I left, I decided that I wouldn't. When I walked in and mentioned my name and that I was there to pick up the gift certificate, the manager (who is the same person that I spoke of above) kind of rudely asked if she could speak to me since I was there regarding the review. She continued to tell me her intention wasn't to offend me, but her tone of voice and choice of wording came across as though she was lecturing a child. It also came across as defensive and in no way felt like a sincere apology. In the middle of all this, the owner was looking for the gift certificate and came out and told the manager to write a new one. As soon as I was handed the paper, the owner said, "So, can you take the review down now?!" I explained that I only would if my experience was better. I looked around for something to get with my gift certificate and left. I am not changing my review and they still will not be getting my business. My business will continue to only go to World of Rocks in Ypsilanti and Harmony in Life in Sylvania. I'm so disappointed with this whole experience.
I have found the FREE health education classes and the staff to have a very wide variety knowledge base. I trust them. If they do not have it they will do their best to get it, info and products alike.
The best selection, & best pricing (Very competitive) with the most helpful staff Rob and Mary & staff are really awesome and extremely knowledgeable long-time employees I can't say enough good things about Bassetts health food store.
I would highly recommend them to anyone! They have served the community well for over 50 years God bless their family!
Not sure you can even call this a health food store. Supplement store maybe. Also confused as to why there is a dietician there when she stated that they specifically make no diet recommendations. My only guess is to cover interferences of medications with the large hoard of low quality tablets that span the store. Plenty of manufactured items. Oddly stocked too. They have incense but no loofahs. They have soaps but no seeds. The atmosphere is stern and private.
Very helpful and knowledgeable staff. Prices can make your eyes pop out of its sockets sometimes, but I'd rather pay that cost for better health than to pay the costs of living the life of side effects from the drugs my doctor keeps giving me!
that don't work!
Bassett's is the "Go To" Health Food Store. They care about people, the planet, their products, information/education and results. Whether you are looking for a lot of new information or broadly educated and want specific research, this is the place to go. We are all better off because Bassett's is in our community.
