I have been to this barbershop 4 times in the past year and have had a variety of experiences. I have had my hair cut my Teri twice and Jacob twice. They charge $24 or $26 depending on whether you're a student. For this price I should be getting a decent amount of attention to detail. Jacob has done this both times I've had my hair cut by him. Teri has not. When Teri cuts my hair I feel as if I'm getting a $10 cut at Great Clips because she rushes through the process and doesn't take her time. They are very friendly and offer free beers while you're there, but getting home and noticing a lot of flaws with my haircut (Bad taper on fade, a lot of straggling hair, unevenness) it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. I hope this changes because I truly like the atmosphere and the people.

Diane Philips and her team (including her doggies) exude a genuine friendly, small town, family atmosphere in their shop. No only do you get a great haircut, you feel welcomed and refreshed from the overall experience.

First time in the shop today. Teri is a pro. Tamed my cowlick nicely. Hot shave and shoulder massage a bonus. Vintage barber chairs a plus, and those two beagles are wonderfully at home here.

Teri and Michael are awesome. free beer with (adult) haircut. nice classic barbershop feel. reeeeaaaallllyy wish owner would set up online reservations as barbers have to answer all phone calls and people constantly calling in for rezzies and it's reeeeaaaallllyy distracting. I understand the old-timey shtick, but I don't think online rezzies would undermine that but would greatly improve the experience.

About 3 weeks ago I took the advice of one of my co-workers and decided to try "Barber Shop At Fairhaven". I made an appointment, and then showed up to get my hair cut. When I arrived I was greeted by a woman named Terri, and after I was invited to grab a seat and a drink, we discussed what my haircut would be. Everything was great up to this point.

Unfortunately that's where the story changes. About 3-4 minutes into my haircut, Terri leans over and asks Michael (the other barber) how she can work out what she had planned. Michael leans over and looks at me, and then says to Terri that she is going to have to shave down the sides of my hair much shorter in order to salvage the design.

Terri then asks me if thats ok. Knowing that she has already compromised what the cut we had agreed upon, and believing that she could salvage this sinking ship, I hesitantly said she could proceed. She completed the phase she was in, but even without my glasses on I could tell that it was going awry. Also, she kept making it very awkward for me by mentioning that she needed to go and meet the owner (Diana) for lunch at a thai restaurant down the street.

She moved on to the next step which was to put in my "part", meaning that she would carve a line into my head where my hair would then be parted. Terri suggested putting a part on either side of head, and I agreed to her suggestion, because I can be a bit adventurous. She started buzzing in the part, but one side took longer than the other it seemed. I still couldn't see anything though, as my glasses were off.

To make a long story short, she made one part on one side of head quite large, and the other much smaller. Also, the parts were at different levels on my head, instead of matching as she strived for. Terri hurried through the rest of my cut, and then asked me for the $25 I owed her for the haircut. Side note, I thought the timing was weird, as I didn't even get to look at my haircut in the mirror before she turned my chair and said we were finished.

I pulled out my debit card, but she said that they only took cash. I thought this also was a little weird, but I ran out to my car to tap into my secret stash (birthday money I'm saving for my wife's B-day) and ran back to give her the money. She was annoyed when I didn't tip her, but didn't ask me if was satisfied.

I'll try to keep this even shorter I waited a few days after the experience, and got the opinions of my family and friends, as well as the incessant teasing by some of my co-workers, and then I decided to call in and talk to the owner (Diana). I told Diana what had happened, and she said that she was sorry, and that I should come in to have her take a look. I agreed, and came in the middle of that week.

Diana greeted me, and asked me to sit down in the barber chair. (I had mentioned on the phone call a few days prior, that there was nothing left to cut in order to try and fix it.) I sat in the chair anyway, and again said that it was way too short, and that I was getting some guff at work. She said that she wanted to straighten the back a little, and make a couple of repairs. I again reluctantly agreed, as she seemed to think that I needed it.

Almost 10 minutes later she had cut my hair a little shorter, and also started cutting my beard! I felt so violated!

Finally, she finished, and then wished me a fond farewell. I felt humiliated, and was too upset to do anything but leave. I had hoped to talk to her candidly about my experience, and maybe get a free haircut next time, or at least a refund. Heck, I would have settled for something, but none of that happened. In fact it was far worse than the first time!

I hope that this is a fluke experience, as everyone is quite nice, but as I wrestled with writing this, I thought of others that should know what could happen if things do not go according to plan. Thanks for reading this.
