The last few times I have come to Bandolero has been for drinks. Their spicy margarita is out of this world! While I have been here before for food, I can honestly say I can't remember what I ate. I would come to the bar for drinks, but probably would go somewhere else for food.
I have pretty high standards for so-called Mexican restaurants, given that I am Mexican-American and grew up eating authentic Mexican food in my own home. So, I wasn't that impressed with Bandolero, but then again, I am rather biased. I like that their food is in the small plates style, which is nice. I visited Bandolero during Restaurant Week, so I don't 100% remember everything I tried, but none of it was particularly exciting or memorable. I remember their crispy Brussels sprouts weren't that great -- I had a hard time finishing them, and I usually love Brussels sprouts. I also tried some kind of vegetable empanada thing, and I didn't really enjoy it. Overall, I would potentially go back again and give it a second chance, but highly unlikely.
I like that everything comes out on plates that encourages sharing of the food. Because of this, I was able to try a number of things on the menu in just one visit. Everything I had was tasty and I especially liked their salsa trio, as I am a big fan of salsa when it's done right. It's a little on the pricier side, but the prices are by no means outrageous; this is in Georgetown, afterall. It isn't the best Mexican food I've ever had, but maybe that's just me being picky, since it's my favorite cuisine type.
This is my kind of place! The vibe and decor is trendy but still relaxed. Service was excellent on multiple levels. Food is good. Just order a bunch of items and you'll enjoy them. Would return and recommend. Overall, had a fantastic experience.
I am a very happy camper. I am a huge fan of Top Chef and in every city I visit I go to a Top Chef restaurant. This is BY FAR the best one yet. Our waiter was completely passionate about food and it is perfect that the dishes are smaller because I wanted to try every one. Please check this place out. Awesome. Everyone else told us to go to the Waterfront. Plus we came from Idaho to visit. :)
