Lovely pizza place. Delicious food, my partner and I shared the 14" pizza which was filling enough. I had a craft IPA to drink which was great!
We are new to Santa Fe so I asked my Lt where to get the best pizza is. With no hesitation he said Back Road pizza. I used their online ordering system which is easy and thorough, it lets you do a half and half, and completely modify each half. The ordering app said the pizza would be ready in 45 minutes so I took my time getting there, since I'm only about 15 minutes away. The pizza was ready and waiting when I got there 40 minutes after ordering it and was cold when I got it home :(. Minus 1 star.
A couple of weeks later, I showed up for a meeting at the firehouse, and was greated by several boxes of partially eaten pizza from Back Road Pizza. Not being one to pass up free pizza, I took a slice. Even though it was cold, it was pretty good. Plus 1 star.
Lesson: cold pizza is good if someone else pays for it.
So the next time we were wanting pizza, I went online and ordered another pizza from Back Road pizza. Hey look, they remember what I ordered last time. I ordered it again, and again it said 45 minutes. Not believing them this time I jumped in the car and headed down to pickup my pizza. 15 minutes of driving, and 5 minutes of looking for a parking space later, I went in and the pizza was already done, this time 20 minutes after ordering it, and 25 minutes before I was told to expect it to be ready. It wasn't cold when I got it home, just warm. Minus 1 star.
Back Road delivers the real deal pizza. Fantastic crust, fantastic sauce, and great toppings. We had only three nights in Santa Fe for a quick ski trip and we ended up having two dinners at Back Road. It's a great joint and they truly put together great pizzas.
The Caesar salad is absolutely great, too. Served with great dressing and lemon wedges. Just perfect.
The pizza crusts are thin. Exactly how my family and I like them and they are scrumptious. If you don't like a thin crust then this won't be the place for you or maybe they'll convert you.
You won't be disappointed. Give it a try.
Wide variety of hand tossed regular or thin crust pizza. All of them delicious.!!! All fresh ingredients. Wonderful salads, and a great selection of beer on tap, many locally crafted . Usually busy, and noisy..especially in colder weather when the patio is closed. But the pizza is VERY GOOD !!!
Quite a nice little gem in Santa Fe. Honestly, would you think pizza when in Santa Fe? Prob not.. But Back Road is really good. Hubby and I like checking out Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives around the country. And this did not disappoint.
We each got a classic basic pizza slice to try first Pepperoni and sausage--Was tasty. The lunch special comes with a side salad and a drink! Awesome deal.
There are pool tables upstairs too!
Will definitely be back.. Especially in the summer.. There's an outdoor patio seating.. 😀
Best thin crust pizza I've had in a long while. Crispy cornmeal crust, just the right amount of olive oil, a rich and slightly spicy sauce, fresh tasty cheese, plenty of pepperonis, fresh mushrooms and green peppers. Cooked to perfection. The small house salad with field greens, garbanzos, red onions and sunflower seeds was fresh and well proportioned. The bruschetta was probably overkill but, really, any combo of olive oil, tomatoes, onions and olives on that delicious crust is going to taste amazing. Service was friendly. Nice happy laughter in the kitchen while my pie was cooking.
First of all, the pizza here is one of the best in the state. The staff is phenomenal and the service is amazing. Its a small town place with a small town feel. I play pool there every monday and never had a problem with the people there. I love the food and the staff. Highly recommend this place.
The pizza's pretty good, but holy cow, the green Chile stew is the best I've tasted! Definitely worth it. Atmosphere is relaxed. I've only ever been for lunch and they usually aren't busy. I think it would be fun at night. They have pool tables upstairs.
We came here right after DDD was here and the pizza was pretty good. Six years later we came to Santa Fe and read the ratings for the best pizza place. Back Roads was rated the best for many years in a row. So, we decided to try it again. How it was rated the best is beyond us. The once hand rolled dough is now done by machine and done way too thin and not as much good crust on the edge. Too much sauce made the pizza watery. Basically, it was just a poorly made and not a very tasty pizza. Then, to top it off, our extra large pizza was put in a box not big enough for the pizza. So the pizza was doubled over on one side. Yes, pizza does stick together as it cools. Finally, we were going to eat there, but there were so many flies we decided to leave. We've been to other of the highly rated pizza places in Santa Fe that were much better. No more taking the Back Roads for us.
Fun and creative atmosphere. Friendly staff. Food was delicious! Especially the home made gluten free crust. Good selection of local beers. Highly recommended.
A favorite place for sure! The pizza, salads, and beer never disappoint. The only issue I encounter once in a while is a lack of friendliness from some of the staff. Of course, going to Santa Fe you begin to accept some level of attitude, but from a place that bills itself to be family friendly I would expect a little less pretension.
Not saying all employees are like that, but enough to make a difference.
Overall, I enjoy this place a lot - pizza is better and more affordable than Rooftop, and they allow pets which is always a plus. Hopefully someone will consider hiring better/friendler people, or maybe provide more rigorous training in customer service - a simple "hello" can do wonders for customers AND staff!
Fast friendly service. Download the app for easy ordering! AND THE PIZZA IS GREAT TOO!
Pizza was off the charts very attentive staff! Defiantly worth the drive from Albuquerque.
This was the best pizza I have ever had! Their ranch is amazing (even better than Dion's ranch)!
I ordered a pizza online for pickup and my food was ready on time and the staff were super friendly and helpful when I came in to get it. They've got really customizable and unusual options as far as toppings go (l recommend trying the goat cheese!) and they have gluten free crust available on request. The only downside was that the price was a little high, but the quality was good and I will definitely come back if I'm ever in the area again!
