Short walk from Market St. This is a wonderful historic spot. This would be great to visit with children to give them an idea of history. The museum is open for you to enter the submarine and get a sense of how they used it. It is pretty amazing when you get a sense of the whole picture.

Now this is a nice stop the albacore has got so much history I give it 5 stars and tell you if you're in the area to please stop by. It is run a nonprofit organization, still cared for by the US Navy and gracefully attended to buy a volunteers.
The albacore staff are full of information on her wonderful history, although I am a woman of peace and prefer peace over War this Little Submarine has helped us a lot with the future and safety of our submersible Navy men and women

This is a great place to learn some history and have some fun. There is a small museum with lots of information and details about the Albacore. We were able to walk through the sub on a self guided tour and were able to see what it was like for the men on the sub. It was amazing to see what the inside of the sub looked like and how the men lived their daily lives. There is also a nice little park area to walk through.

This museum was fantastic!

The staff was very friendly and extremely willing to answer questions.

The tickets were surprisingly cheap considering everything else we had or wanted to visit in the New England area was much more expensive. We were pleasantly surprised that it cost only $14 for both my husband and I to view the submarine.

With the exception of two small rooms (which you could still view quite easily), no area was off limits in this sub. You could go anywhere, touch anything, and they had very informative audio informational boxes located throughout the sub.

It was most definitely one of the highlights of our New England trip.

Excellently presented and well restored vessel, with a fantastic background and a lot of history. Many articles are on display in the building and they have a great video detailing the transport of the submarine from the ocean to where it sits now.

Staff were very friendly and helpful, and were able to provide insight in many areas of the vessel's history.

This is a self guided audio tour. As long as you are able to climb through the hatches, this tour will be interesting for everyone old enough to know what a submarine is. The audio is narrated by former crewmembers. Climb into the bunks, sit in the mess, turn the knows on the sonar and other equipment. It's a very hands on experience. If you're really into WWII and military stuff you could spend a long time at this place. The staff are extremely knowledgeable and friendly. Kids using an actual periscope was the highlight.

This museum displays an actual submarine; the USS Albacore 569. It is an amazing tourist site, situated in a nice environment and close to downtown of Portsmouth. Great activity to undertake with the entire family. You are guaranteed an awesome experience exploring the inside of the submarine. It is a self guided tour, have fun pressing the buttons. It can get crowded depending on the number of people visiting. A little tip here is to go through the ship as many times as you please. My family and I went through twice.

What a great little museum and garden area. The price is extremely cheap ($14 for 2 adults and 2 kids). In the submarine, for the area you can walk in - which is all of the upstairs, you can turn handles and dials to your hearts content. You can also look through the periscope which is awesome!

The outside garden has been well tended and has some poignant and lovely memorials to lost sailors.

I loved it. Super awesome. Going through the sub was amazing. You can actually turn and twist all the knobs you want. Periscope actually works. The entire sub has audio clips you can play to learn more about it during your self guided tour. Super tight quarters. So cool!

This is a great tourist stop, easily accessible from both RT 1 and I-95. It's very hands on and the kids loved it. You can try out a berth or bunk bed, and see all the equipment that was in this sub. The kitchen mixers were huge. The engine room is also a favorite. It's an amazing piece of history and technology.

Great little museum. Fun for young kids and adults. Inexpensive to buy a self-guided audio tour. Fifteen minute video explains why the sub is there, then you get to walk through the submarine. Beware, there are a lot of tight spaces and climbing through some of the portals is tough if you are taller or need assistance walking. A nice stop on the way to Portsmouth.
