Brought my 9 month old son in for a rash all over his body and he had a fever when we arrived. Several hours later after watching many families come and go for simple ailments. I was told it was based on priority. Finally got back to room after three hours and forty five minutes to find a DIRTY bed with red stuff all over it. NOT a very caring hospital in my opinion. If I could rate in negative stars it would be a negative five
I went to the er the other day and I was given Danielle M Paulin as my doctor (White lady with blonde hair) . This doctor was very ignorant and very rude to me and my mother. She said that she 99% knows what I have and the lab results didn't even come in yet, she treated my scar with no care what so ever and referred to me as "sweetheart" when having an attitide. I came back the next day and was given J. Chika Morah as my doctor and she was very nice and took a look at my problem and said the complete opposite, I also was seen by two other women at akron general and they said the same thing as J. Chika Morah. I am very hurt by Danielle M Paulin attitude and I feel as though she is too dangerous and toxic to be working with children. I also heard from nurses that she always has that attitude around the hospital. I am very disappointed !
I am incredibly frustrated with the financial/bureaucratic part of this hospital. They have no system or recourse for disputing bills. For their occupational therapy (for kids), they are able to charge more than ordinary because their hospital is classified as a "trauma" hospital. The people working for them do not have medical doctorates (but medical certificates), and have "set charges" of over $300 an hour.
We recently brought my toddler in for his very first ER visit and had a great experience as far as ER visits can go. We didn't wait long at all in the waiting room before we were taken back to a room. Once in the room it did take some time for a doctor to come in and they didn't spend much time in the room at all but the popsicle my son received after the doctor was in did seem to help calm him down. The registration person didn't actually make it into the room until we were being released to leave but that didn't really impact our visit. Regardless, the doctor was quick to diagnose the problem, prescribed the necessary medications, and tried to be as quick as possible during her examination while still being thorough to ease my child's discomfort.
Staff was very caring and nice. I'm from central Ohio and usually use Nationwide childrens, but this was a very pleasant change.
Had a terrible experience with this hosp 10yrs ago with my older child. Decided to give a second chance with new baby, nothing has changed. Everyone makes you feel inadequate as a parent. They'll tell you they support breastfeeding, and insist you take a can of formula with you. They'll have a nurse ask you questions and type your answers in the computer. Then the Dr will come in and ask the same questions while looking at the computer. Then another person will ask the same questions, still looking at your info in the computer, all in the same visit. Either they don't believe you, don't actually read your patient notes, or they're trying to "catch you." I'm not talking about identifying questions, birthdate wtc. I am talking about how many wet diapers, how long does baby sleep etc. Basic questions. I have never experienced this in any other hospital, children's or otherwise. by far the most uncomfortable and infuriating pediatric experience ever. I truly despise akron childrens hospital. And beware of you're on medicaid..
They'll have you seeing specialist after specialist forever and never seem to resolve any alleged problems. They just want to get $$ somehow.
My family has been very satisfied with our experiences here. Medical and nursing are first rate.
This place is fantastic. A culture of caring, compassion, and competence. I am a nurse and always take my kids here. The best!
5 stars for nurses and docs -5 stars for everything else. Son has been in 2 times for pneumonia. First time we didn't have running water for days. Second time we are getting threatening letters from there payment dept about collections. So we have called multiple times and have been paying bill every month via ACH payment plan. They take the money and say it shows we have been paying, but we still get threatening letters. The people running this dept are clearly incompetent. Will be contacting attorney general and bbb. Will not stand for harassment.
A friendly kids atmosphere as well as helpful and attentive staff make this hospital a dream come true when needing emergent care for your child. Prices charged are inline with other hospitals, so don't expect anything different, but care at this hospital was great when my family and I visited.
Went to E.R. Due to slicing my thumb open . Very quickly looked after and they cared truly . Best hospital around by far :)
The ER doctors are horrible. Took my 2 month old in (who was wheezing coughing and breathing heavily) to get checked and hopefully a breathing treatment. The DR. Looked at her, had her nose suctioned out. I asked noumrous questions about the possibility of croup, whooping cough and phemonia he said she had a cold and sent us on our way. I was up all nite making sure she was breathing. Called her Pedi in the morning who took her in immediately after telling her the symptoms, turns out it was CROUP. my pedi was not happy with the DR. Who had seen her the nite before. Obviously a child's well being is not important at this hospital. Also customer service and the billing department are horrible. Messing with my billing address with out permission, and refusing to fix it. Been trying to get the issue resolved for 2 months now, been lied to and given the run around any time my fiancée or I call. Calling me a liar. Somehow, magically, all the calls we have made to resolve the issue are not on record. Be careful when dealing with these people, they are very shady when it comes to billing and insurance. And refuse to even adresss something may be wrong with your child other than a cold..
Excellent service every time we come here, very children and family oriented. I had the opportunity to visit numerous hospitals and emergency rooms but this one is on the top of my list when it comes to child care. Residents of Akron and surrounding areas are very lucky to have facility with this level of excellency and professionalism in their city.
