Parking can become very crowded if there are a lot of people hiking. Bring your own toilet paper (and a sealed bag) for the trail.

There is plenty of parking here, but I have heard during the more popular times of the year even this large parking lot can become full from people coming here to day or section hike. The lot seems pretty easy to get to. When I arrived here late on a Monday evening to section hike there were some local teens goofing off around the lot in their car so keep an eye out for things like that.

The hike from the parking lot to Annapolis rock is a great hike that can be done in a few hours. The Washington Monument is a much shorter distance, though in the other direction.

This is a convenient trailhead for the Appalachian Trail, specifically the portion that accesses the gorgeous and tourist-popular blue blaze trails "Annapolis Rock," "Black Rock," and "Washington Monument." There isn't an obvious sign from the road - you know you're there when you see a Smokey the Bear forest fire alert on the opposite side of the highway. The "parking lot" is not much more than a paved area carved out on the side of the highway. On weekends, it is PACKED with cars, many of which are really just parked along the road. I've never seen anyone ticketed for parking this way.
