Fethiye Museum is the worst of all the sites I have visited. The guard at the site was like a terrorist. Barking NO continuously. Wouldnt even allowed me to take a pic of fethiye standing at the gate. Walked a very tedious, and long of uphill and downhill in the cold, to meet a Barking turkish! UPDATE if you are closed. PLEASE.

Can't say I enjoyed something I didn't get to see since it was "CLOSED" and we were NOT given that info when purchasing the Istanbul Museum Pass which includes 13 museums but 3 of them were closed, during construction or permanently closed, we paid for something not available, try to ask which museums are actually opened and see what works best as ticket purchases. Enjoy Guys!!

Located in the Çarşamba neighborhood of the Fatih District along the Golden Horn, upon visiting ‘Fethiye Müzesi’ you’ll notice it’s separated into a museum and a working mosque.

Upon entering the chapel which has functioned as a museum since 1949, you might be disappointed by its size, but only the side chapel (parecclesion) remains. The beauty lies in the ceiling. The dome and vaults are covered with Byzantine mosaics dating back to the 14th century. There are also fragments of frescoes at the entrance. Keep in mind, you will need to strain your neck for long periods of time to fully be able to encompass all the beauty that lies above.

At the time I "visited" this musum (now an old church transformed in a mosque and that part of it containing some mosaics in a so-called museum) it was close, and even if it was written on every place where MuseumPass for Istanbul is sold that it can be visited, when I arrived there it was close, and, moreover, there was no sign of human presence there, the ticket selling qiosk was closed, the grass in the courtyard was as tall as the fence. It was disappointing because of the lack of interest in this place from the local autorities. The only reason I give these stars is for its importance to byzantine history.

NO MORE MUSEUM here. Museum information placed here is very old ( museum pass price now 125, but on old desk here it is 50). Museum entrance not used long time and full of grass. But you can visit mosque placed here. Mosque is good and quiet.

Beautiful Byzantine mosaics, not many but the ones that are there are just as good as the ones in Chora or in Hagia Sofia.

It is a former church which was converted into a mosque. Unfortunately, neither antient byzantine mosaic nor more recent islamic elements have survived.
