Worst YHA ever. We'd booked a 3 beds rooms and they gave us a 4 beds rooms saying that the price was the same. Hard mattress. Noise of the toilet flush earable through the wall. What a shame regarding to the standard of YHA which are usually pretty awesome.

The public place is great. Free breads, TV room and even a piano there. Love it!

Stayed here for one night in Feb. 2011. It was decent, but we were so tired when we got there that anywhere would have been nice. Fortunately we could only stay one night and found a better place for the next night (Accents on the Park).

We stayed here for two nights in November 2009 in a room on the first floor.
Pros: very clean and functional common premises like kitchen, laundry et c. Very kind and helpful personnel.
Cons: The room was cramped and smelled terribly. I do not understand the use of wall-to-wall carpets in places like this.
No stowage in the room.
A disappointment for a senior like myself.

The Nelson YHA is an exceptionally good hostel by world standards: comfortable beds, copious hot water for showers, convenient and well-stocked kitchens, pleasant and helpful staff and, best of all, a standard of cleanliness that is well above other NZ YHA's.
Only one negative comment - the noisy game in the lounge was a source of annoyance to the majority of visitors of all ages who were either trying to read, talk or compose mail on the Internet.response / report this review
