Stopped here for a night as part of our road trip in South Island. This place is a combination of hotel (private rooms are upstairs & upstairs space is separated by a locked door), bar & restaurant with a separate room with live music, and a hostel type space downstairs. The hotel has a private parking in the back. There is a private courtyard with adjacent to the bar & restaurant. The hotel area is separate from the bar & restaurant and has separate bathrooms & showers and kitchen. The hostel rooms are not large and have bunk beds. Although the night we arrived there was live music (which was very nice), we could not hear anything upstairs in our private room. The room and the rest of the facilities were very clean. The bed was comfortable. The room is equipped with an electric heater. The only minus is that there was no hair dryer. The shower had an adjustable shower head (can adjust the height of the shower & the angle of the shower head). There were people of various ages staying at the hotel. We arrived late and the manager/owner (who was very nice) showed us around and explained all the amenities they were offering. The hotel offers free breakfast (coffee, juice, waffles, toast, cereal), certain beer/wine is offered at a discount for those staying there. You can rent bikes free for 2 hours. The hotel also offers discounted food during lunch and dinner hours which I thought was good for a budget traveler (we stayed only for one night so we did not have any food there). The hotel is also located very close to a supermarket and many restaurants and shops.

What an amazing place, if you are in Nelson you have to stop here, at least get a drink from the bar. Great staff

Great beer, great food, great atmosphere. Best thing is every 1st and 3rd Friday there's theatre sports on. It's just brilliant

Helpful and pleasant staff. Tidy rooms. Free Wi-Fi and breakfast. Cheap meals and drinks for residents. All round good experience!

Nice but impossible to get sleep anytime reasonable due to both loud, vibrating live music and noisy patrons from pub. You can hear conversations clearly word for word. Host didn't mention any live music when booking with a small child. Clean but would not stay again.

Nice backpacker accommodation, solid bunk beds and clean. Pub is nice but the food was pretty averagethis may be because the vegetarian option is extremely limited and sadly on the meal offers they don't bother have a veggie option.I'd recommend it for staying generally, its a nice set-up, maybe just eat somewhere else or cook your own.

The best backpackers I have ever stayed at. The hostel is clean, the beds are great, the rates are a great deal, the breakfast is way nicer than expected, the wifi is free and high quality and the hosts are welcoming and wonderful. Truly a great hostel

Quicky become my favourite. Single handedly lift up my image of backpackers hotel. Very clean rooms, with good amenities. Not much options in the game room, but the bar & restaurant is stocked with good beer and food options. The outdoor area is good too. If you stayed there, you can get very cheap meal option from the bar & restaurant. And your rent includes breakfast. And please note that the creamy with a bit of oil on top is not a drink, it's the waffle batter, so don't drink it.
